Journal ArticleDOI
Sepsis and septic shock: pathophysiological and cardiovascular background as basis for therapy.
TL;DR: Understanding the pathophysiology of sepsis and septic shock will inevitably lead to a more accurate treatment of these still too often fatal syndromes, and is recommended that further investigational work should focus on the recovery of the mitochondria-related bio-energetic shut down.
Journal ArticleDOI
Manual skills in anaesthesiology
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of medical simulation in the assessment of anesthetists in training is still unclear, and the introduction of simulator-based tests may be premature, and it is clear that these figures give some help for the rational design of training programs, however, numbers alone do not provide a sufficient basis to declare a trainee competent for a given procedure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experience of cardioverter-defibrillators inserted without thoracotomy: evaluation of transvenously inserted intracardiac leads alone or with a subcutaneous axillary patch.
TL;DR: The approach without thoracotomy with a subcutaneous patch is feasible and effective in most patients selected for ICD treatment and long-term clinical follow up of this arrangement is not available.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safe single-dose administration of propofol in patients with established Brugada syndrome: a retrospective database analysis.
Panagiotis Flamée,Carlo de Asmundis,Jigme T. Bhutia,Giulio Conte,Stefan Beckers,Vincent Umbrain,Christian Verborgh,Gian-Battista Chierchia,Sophie Van Malderen,Ruben Casado-Arroyo,Andrea Sarkozy,Pedro Brugada,Jan Poelaert +12 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to investigate whether a single dose of propofol triggered any adverse events in consecutive high‐risk patients with BS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hemodynamic effects of different lung-protective ventilation strategies in closed-chest pigs with normal lungs.
Carl Roosens,R. Ama,H. Alex Leather,Patrick Segers,Carlo Sorbara,Patrick Wouters,Jan Poelaert +6 more
TL;DR: In the absence of a fluid resuscitation strategy, CLPV and HFOV caused decreased mean arterial pressure, cardiac output, and stroke volume and worsened oxygenation in this normal lung animal model.
