Capturing the physics of MaNGA galaxies with self-supervised Machine Learning
Regina Sarmiento,Marc Huertas-Company,Johan H. Knapen,Sebastian Francisco Sanchez Sanchez,Helena Domínguez Sánchez,Niv Drory,Jesús Falcón-Barroso +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a self-supervised machine learning method was used to visualize the multi-dimensional information on stellar population and kinematics in the MaNGA survey in a two dimensional plane.
Stellar Velocity Profiles and Line-Strengths out to Four Effective Radii in the Early-Type Galaxy NGC 3379
Anne-Marie Weijmans,Michele Cappellari,P. T. de Zeeuw,Eric Emsellem,Jesús Falcón-Barroso,Harald Kuntschner,Richard M. McDermid,R. C. E. van den Bosch,G. van de Ven +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, an integral field spectrograph (SAURON) was used to measure stellar kinematics and line-strengths at large radii in nearby galaxies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Star formation in nearby early-type galaxies: Mapping in UV, optical and CO
Martin Bureau,Roland Bacon,Michele Cappellari,Francoise Combes,Roger L. Davies,P. T. de Zeeuw,Eric Emsellem,Jesús Falcón-Barroso,Hyunjin Jeong,Davor Krajnović,H. Kuntschner,Richard M. McDermid,Reynier Peletier,Marc Sarzi,K. L. Shapiro,G. van de Ven,Sukyoung K. Yi,Lisa M. Young +17 more
TL;DR: The SAURON integral field survey revealed that small (~0.1, R e ) kinematically decoupled cores (KDCs) in early-type galaxies are increasingly young toward the center and are typically found in fast-rotating galaxies, while large KDCs have homogeneously old stars as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Full-spectral fitting techniques to characterise the stellar content of ultra diffuse galaxies
Tomás Ruiz-Lara,Michael A. Beasley,Carme Gallart,Jesús Falcón-Barroso,Giuseppina Battaglia,Edouard J. Bernard,Chris B. Brook,A. Di Cintio,Estrella Florido,I. Martín-Navarro,M. Monelli,Isabel Pérez,F. Pinna,J. Roman,Patricia Sanchez-Blazquez,Ignacio Trujillo,A. Vazdekis +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the Star Formation Histories (SFH) recovered from STECKMAP (applied to high-quality spectra) and deep Colour-Magnitude diagrams fitting (resolved stars) in two Local Group dwarf galaxies (LMC and LeoA) are remarkable.
Journal ArticleDOI
No direct coupling between bending of galaxy disc stellar age and light profiles as seen from CALIFA
Tomás Ruiz-Lara,Isabel Pérez,Estrella Florido,Patricia Sanchez-Blazquez,Jairo Méndez-Abreu,Mariya Lyubenova,Jesús Falcón-Barroso,L. Sánchez-Menguiano,Sebastián F. Sánchez,Califa Team +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the existence of a real link between observed surface brightness profiles and changes in stellar properties such as age is still unclear, however, it has been generally related to down-bending light distributions.
