Strong control of Southern Ocean cloud reflectivity by ice-nucleating particles

TL;DR: The results show that the radiative properties of the most biased types of clouds in cyclonic systems are highly sensitive to the concentration of ice-nucleating particles, and low-level mixed-phase clouds in the cold sectors of extratropical cyclones are the most sensitive.
Dataset

Dataset associated with ‘Not all feldspars are equal: a survey of ice nucleating properties across the feldspar group of minerals'

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the ice-nucleating properties of 15 well-characterised feldspar samples and found that alkali feldspars generally nucleate ice more efficiently than feldstars containing significant amounts of calcium in the plagioclase series.
Journal ArticleDOI

Not all feldspars are equal: a survey of ice nucleating properties across the feldspar group of minerals

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the ice-nucleating properties of 15 characterized feldspar samples and found that the potassium-rich feldspars generally nucleate ice more efficiently than the sodium-rich ones.

Contribution of Feldspar and Marine Organic aerosols to global ice nucleating particles concentrations

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a global model of INP concentrations relevant for mixed-phase clouds based on laboratory and field measurements of ice nucleation by K-feldspar (an ice active component of desert dust) and marine organic aerosols (from sea spray).
