The Met Office Unified Model Global Atmosphere 7.0/7.1 and JULES Global Land 7.0 configurations
David N. Walters,Anthony J. Baran,Anthony J. Baran,Ian A. Boutle,M. E. Brooks,Paul Earnshaw,John M. Edwards,Kalli Furtado,Peter Hill,Adrian Lock,James Manners,Cyril J. Morcrette,Jane Mulcahy,Claudio Sanchez,Chris Smith,Rachel Stratton,Warren Tennant,Lorenzo Tomassini,Kwinten Van Weverberg,Simon Vosper,Martin Willett,J. Browse,Andrew C. Bushell,Kenneth S. Carslaw,Mohit Dalvi,Richard Essery,Nicola Gedney,Steven C. Hardiman,Ben Johnson,Colin E. Johnson,Andrew Jones,Colin Jones,Graham Mann,Sean Milton,Heather Rumbold,Alistair Sellar,Masashi Ujiie,Michael Whitall,Keith D. Williams,M. Zerroukat +39 more
TL;DR: The Global Atmosphere 3.0 (GA3.0) as mentioned in this paper is a configuration of the Met Office Unified Model (MetUM) developed for use across climate research and weather prediction activities.
Journal ArticleDOI
A marine biogenic source of atmospheric ice-nucleating particles
T. W. Wilson,Luis A. Ladino,Peter A. Alpert,Mark N. Breckels,Ian M. Brooks,J. Browse,Susannah M. Burrows,Kenneth S. Carslaw,J. Alex Huffman,Christopher Judd,W. Kilthau,Ryan H. Mason,Gordon McFiggans,Lisa A. Miller,Juan J. Nájera,Elena Polishchuk,Stuart Rae,C. L. Schiller,Meng Si,Jesús Vergara Temprado,Thomas F. Whale,Jenny P. S. Wong,Oliver Wurl,J. D. Yakobi-Hancock,Jonathan P. D. Abbatt,Josephine Y. Aller,Allan K. Bertram,Daniel A. Knopf,Benjamin J. Murray +28 more
TL;DR: It is shown that organic material in the sea surface microlayer nucleates ice under conditions relevant for mixed-phase cloud and high-altitude ice cloud formation, and suggested that marine organic material may be an important source of ice-nucleating particles in remote marine environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ice nucleation by fertile soil dusts: relative importance of mineral and biogenic components
Daniel O'Sullivan,Benjamin J. Murray,T. L. Malkin,Thomas F. Whale,Nsikanabasi Silas Umo,J. D. Atkinson,H. C. Price,K. J. Baustian,J. Browse,Michael E. Webb +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental methodology which is sensitive to a wide range of ice nucleation efficiencies was used to characterize the immersion mode ice-nucleating activities of dusts.
Journal ArticleDOI
The scavenging processes controlling the seasonal cycle in Arctic sulphate and black carbon aerosol
J. Browse,Kenneth S. Carslaw,Steve R. Arnold,Kirsty J. Pringle,Olivier Boucher,Olivier Boucher +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a global aerosol microphysics model (GLOMAP) and surface-level aerosol observations were used to understand how wet scavenging processes control the seasonal variation in Arctic black carbon (BC) and sulphate aerosol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contribution of feldspar and marine organic aerosols to global ice nucleating particle concentrations
Jesus Vergara-Temprado,Benjamin J. Murray,T. W. Wilson,Daniel O'Sullivan,J. Browse,J. Browse,Kirsty J. Pringle,Karin Ardon-Dryer,Allan K. Bertram,Susannah M. Burrows,Darius Ceburnis,Paul J. DeMott,Ryan H. Mason,Colin D. O'Dowd,Matteo Rinaldi,Kenneth S. Carslaw +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a global model of INP concentrations relevant for mixed-phase clouds based on laboratory and field measurements of ice nucleation by K-feldspar (an iceactive component of desert dust) and marine organic aerosols (from sea spray).
