Journal ArticleDOI
Optogenetic inhibition of behavior with anion channelrhodopsins
Farhan Mohammad,James C. Stewart,Stanislav Ott,Katarina Chlebikova,Jia Yi Chua,Tong-Wey Koh,Joses Ho,Adam Claridge-Chang,Adam Claridge-Chang +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that anion channelrhodopsins can be used to specifically and rapidly inhibit neural systems involved in Drosophila locomotion, wing expansion, memory retrieval and gustation, thus demonstrating their broad utility in the circuit analysis of behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Drosophila microbiome has a limited influence on sleep, activity, and courtship behaviors
Joel Selkrig,Joel Selkrig,Farhan Mohammad,Farhan Mohammad,Soon Hwee Ng,Soon Hwee Ng,Jia Yi Chua,Jia Yi Chua,Tayfun Tumkaya,Tayfun Tumkaya,Joses Ho,Yin Ning Chiang,Dirk Rieger,Sven Pettersson,Charlotte Helfrich-Förster,Joanne Y. Yew,Joanne Y. Yew,Adam Claridge-Chang,Adam Claridge-Chang +18 more
TL;DR: Results refute the hypothesis that the Drosophila microbiome does not have a major influence over several behaviors fundamental to the animal’s survival and reproduction, indicating that the impact of commensal microbes on animal behaviour may not be broadly conserved.
Journal ArticleDOI
A zinc-finger fusion protein refines Gal4-defined neural circuits.
Shamprasad Varija Raghu,Shamprasad Varija Raghu,Shamprasad Varija Raghu,Farhan Mohammad,Farhan Mohammad,Jia Yi Chua,Jia Yi Chua,Joanne Lam,Mavis Loberas,Sadhna Sahani,Claudia S. Barros,Adam Claridge-Chang,Adam Claridge-Chang +12 more
TL;DR: An intersectional genetic AND operation presumably derives from the action of a heterodimeric transcription factor: Gal4-Zal1, which are versatile tools for defining, refining, and manipulating targeted neural expression patterns with precision.

Data for: Optogenetic inhibition of behavior with anion channelrhodopsins
Farhan Mohammad,James C. Stewart,Stanislav Ott,Katarina Chlebikova,Jia Yi Chua,Tong-Wey Koh,Joses Ho,Adam Claridge-Chang +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that anion channelrhodopsins can be used to specifically and rapidly inhibit a range of systems involved in Drosophila locomotion, wing expansion, memory retrieval and gustation, demonstrating their broad utility to the circuit analysis of behavior.
