Microstructures and hardness of as-quenched martensites (0.1-0.5%C)

TL;DR: In this paper, four commercial steels with carbon contents in the range 1-05 wt% have been examined in the as-quenched condition using electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and atom probe tomography.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of the microstructure of Zn-Al and Zn-Al-Mg model alloys on corrosion stability

TL;DR: In this paper, a mechanism based on measurements of corrosion stability of individual phases and chemical and phase compositions of corrosion products is discussed based on a mechanism for identifying composition, size and distribution of present phases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Austenite decomposition structures in the gibeon meteorite

TL;DR: A sample of the Gibeon meteorite has been examined, using several modern metallographic techniques, in particular, electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) as discussed by the authors, and it is concluded that this diversity of structures is due to the independent nucleation of ferrite at different temperatures in the different volumes of austenite, depending on the availability of nucleants.

Relationship between corrosion performance and microstructure of Zn-AI and Zn-AI-Mg model alloys

TL;DR: Zn-5wt.%AI and Zn-3t.%Mg model alloys were cast and heat treated in order to obtain specimens with distinct microstructure and identical chemical composition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of sub-surface deformation induced by machining on stress corrosion cracking in lead-free brass

TL;DR: In this paper , two Pb-free brass alloys were machined under different cutting conditions, tool geometries and tool wear states, and the resulting surface integrity and sub-surface deformation was characterized using nano-indentation, scanning electron (SEM) and ion microscopy, and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).
