Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic hepatitis E virus infection in liver transplant recipients.
Elizabeth B. Haagsma,Arie P. van den Berg,Robert J. Porte,Cornelis A. Benne,Harry Vennema,Johan Reimerink,Marion Koopmans +6 more
TL;DR: Chronic HEV infection may develop in immunosuppressed patients, who may then serve as long‐term carriers of the virus.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Clinicians should be aware that chikungunya should be carefully considered among travellers currently returning from the Caribbean region and the likelihood of the introduction of the virus into Europe from the Americas and subsequent transmission should be considered especially in the context of the next mosquito season in Europe.

Induction of Mucosal Immunity by Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine Is Dependent on Previous Mucosal Contact with Live Virus
TL;DR: It is concluded that IPV vaccination alone is insufficient to induce a mucosal IgA response against poliovirus in mucosally (OPV-) primed individuals, however, booster vaccination with IPV leads to a strong mucosal igA response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Etiology of atopy in infancy: the KOALA Birth Cohort Study.
Ischa Kummeling,Carel Thijs,Carel Thijs,John Penders,Bianca E. P. Snijders,Foekje Stelma,Johan Reimerink,Marion Koopmans,Pieter C. Dagnelie,Machteld Huber,M.C.J.F. Jansen,Rob A. de Bie,Piet A. van den Brandt +12 more
TL;DR: Preliminary results show that the KOALA Birth Cohort Study has succeeded in recruiting a large population with various lifestyle choices with a fairly large contrast with regard to dietary habits (including organic foods, vegetarian diet), vaccination schemes and/or use of antibiotics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of hepatitis E virus infection in liver transplant recipients.
Elizabeth B. Haagsma,Hubert G. M. Niesters,Arie P. van den Berg,Annelies Riezebos-Brilman,Robert J. Porte,Harry Vennema,Johan Reimerink,Marion Koopmans +7 more
TL;DR: Liver transplant recipients have a risk for chronic HEV infection, but the prevalence is low, according to a cohort of 285 adult liver transplant recipients studied.
