Journal ArticleDOI
Hypothermia-treated cardiac arrest patients with good neurological outcome differ early in quantitative variables of EEG suppression and epileptiform activity.
Johanna Wennervirta,Miikka Ermes,S Marjaana Tiainen,Tapani Salmi,Marja Hynninen,Mika Sarkela,Markku Hynynen,Ulf-Håkan Stenman,Hanna E. Viertio-Oja,Kari-Pekka Saastamoinen,Ville Pettilä,Anne Vakkuri +11 more
TL;DR: Quantitative electroencephalographic variables may be used to differentiate patients with good neurologic outcomes from those with poor outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Inhaled Xenon on Cerebral White Matter Damage in Comatose Survivors of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Ruut Laitio,Ruut Laitio,Marja Hynninen,Olli Arola,Olli Arola,Sami Virtanen,Sami Virtanen,Riitta Parkkola,Riitta Parkkola,Jani Saunavaara,Jani Saunavaara,Risto O. Roine,Risto O. Roine,Juha Grönlund,Juha Grönlund,Emmi Ylikoski,Johanna Wennervirta,Minna Bäcklund,Päivi Silvasti,Eija Nukarinen,Marjaana Tiainen,Antti Saraste,Antti Saraste,Mikko Pietilä,Mikko Pietilä,Juhani Airaksinen,Juhani Airaksinen,Leena Valanne,Juha Martola,Heli Silvennoinen,Harry Scheinin,Harry Scheinin,Veli-Pekka Harjola,Jussi Niiranen,Kirsi Korpi,Marjut Varpula,Outi Inkinen,Outi Inkinen,Klaus T. Olkkola,Mervyn Maze,Tero Vahlberg,Timo Laitio,Timo Laitio +42 more
TL;DR: Among comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, inhaled xenon combined with hypothermia compared with Hypothermia alone resulted in less white matter damage as measured by fractional anisotropy of diffusion tensor MRI, however, there was no statistically significant difference in neurological outcomes or mortality at 6 months.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgical stress index as a measure of nociception/antinociception balance during general anesthesia.
TL;DR: The surgical stress index (SSI), computed from finger photoplethysmographic waveform amplitudes and pulse‐to‐pulse intervals, is assessed in patients undergoing shoulder surgery under general anesthesia and interscalene plexus block and in patients with GA only.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhaled Xenon Attenuates Myocardial Damage in Comatose Survivors of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: The Xe-Hypotheca Trial.
Olli Arola,Antti Saraste,Ruut Laitio,Juhani Airaksinen,Marja Hynninen,Minna Bäcklund,Emmi Ylikoski,Johanna Wennervirta,Mikko Pietilä,Risto O. Roine,Veli-Pekka Harjola,Jussi Niiranen,Kirsi Korpi,Marjut Varpula,Harry Scheinin,Mervyn Maze,Tero Vahlberg,Timo Laitio +17 more
TL;DR: Among comatose survivors of OHCA, inhaled xenon combined with hypothermia suggested a less severe myocardial injury as demonstrated by the significantly reduced release of troponin-T.
Journal ArticleDOI
Entropy is more resistant to artifacts than bispectral index in brain-dead organ donors
Johanna Wennervirta,Tapani Salmi,Markku Hynynen,Arvi Yli-Hankala,Anna-Maria Koivusalo,Mark van Gils,Reino Pöyhiä,Anne Vakkuri +7 more
TL;DR: Both entropy and BIS showed nonzero values due to artifacts after brain death diagnosis, and care should be taken when interpreting EEG and EEG-derived indices in the evaluation of brain death.
