Anomalous heating in a colloidal system.

TL;DR: In this article, anomalous heating in a colloidal system, where an initially cold system heats up faster than an identical warm system coupled to the same thermal bath, was observed.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Trajectory control using an information engine

TL;DR: In this paper, an information engine that can transport a bead in a desired direction by using favorable fluctuations from the thermal bath is presented. But, in its original formulation, the information engine generates a fluctuating velocity and cannot control the position of the bead.

Nonequilibrium Phenomena in Liquid Crystals

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized a talk presented at the April NATO ASI on Spatiotemporal Chaos in Complex Fluids, in Santa Fe, NM. Much of the discussion focused on the different phenomena observed in solidification and how the increasing complexity of fluid systems decreases the velocity scale for achieving "rapid" solidification.
Journal ArticleDOI

Split PID control: two sensors can be better than one

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the consequences of using two probes, one near the heater and the other near the sample, and assign the integral term to the sample probe and other terms to the heater probe.
