CIAO: Chandra's data analysis system

TL;DR: The CIAO (Chandra Interactive Analysis of Observations) software package was first released in 1999 following the launch of the Chandra X-ray Observatory and is used by astronomers across the world to analyze Chandra data as well as data from other telescopes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Discovery of Ghost Cavities in the X-Ray Atmosphere of Abell 2597

TL;DR: In this article, a Chandra image of the central 100 kpc of the Abell 2597 cluster of galaxies shows bright irregular X-ray emission within the central dominant cluster galaxy (CDG) and two low surface brightness cavities located 30 kpc from the nucleus of the CDG.
Journal ArticleDOI

X-Ray Supercavities in the Hydra A Cluster and the Outburst History of the Central Galaxy's Active Nucleus

TL;DR: A 227 ks Chandra X-ray image of the hot plasma in the Hydra A cluster has revealed an extensive cavity system as discussed by the authors, which was created by a continuous outflow or a series of bursts from the nucleus of the central galaxy over the past 200-500 Myr.
