Journal ArticleDOI
Ganoderma lucidum reduces obesity in mice by modulating the composition of the gut microbiota.
Chih-Jung Chang,Chuan-Sheng Lin,Chia-Chen Lu,Jan Martel,Yun-Fei Ko,David M. Ojcius,Shun-Fu Tseng,Tsung-Ru Wu,Yi-Yuan Margaret Chen,John D. Young,Hsin-Chih Lai +10 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that G. lucidum and its high molecular weight polysaccharides may be used as prebiotic agents to prevent gut dysbiosis and obesity-related metabolic disorders in obese individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of the gut microbiota, prebiotics, and probiotics on human health and disease
Chuan-Sheng Lin,Chih Jung Chang,Chia-Chen Lu,Jan Martel,David M. Ojcius,Yun-Fei Ko,John D. Young,Hsin-Chih Lai +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that intestinal bacteria play a critical role in the development of different disease conditions, including obesity, fatty liver disease, and lung infection, and the potential application of prebiotics and probiotics in maintaining optimal health and treating chronic inflammatory and immunity-related diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Saliva protein biomarkers to detect oral squamous cell carcinoma in a high-risk population in Taiwan
Jau-Song Yu,Yi-Ting Chen,Wei Fan Chiang,Yung-Chin Hsiao,Lichieh Julie Chu,Lai-Chu See,Chi-Sheng Wu,Hui-Tzu Tu,Hsiao-Wei Chen,Chia-Chun Chen,Wei-Chao Liao,Ya-Ting Chang,Chih-Ching Wu,Che-Yi Lin,Shyun-Yeu Liu,Shu Ti Chiou,Shu-Li Chia,Kai-Ping Chang,Chih-Yen Chien,Su-Wei Chang,Chee-Jen Chang,John D. Young,Chia C. Pao,Yu-Sun Chang,Leland H. Hartwell +24 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive literature review was used and LC-multiple reaction monitoring-MS was used to qualitatively and quantitatively measure target proteins in saliva samples from individuals of the at-risk population in Taiwan to establish a four-protein panel sufficient to detect oral squamous cell carcinoma and monitor high-risk OPMDs through a readily available biofluid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of CD24 as a cancer stem cell marker in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Chun-Hung Yang,Hui-Ling Wang,Yi-Sheng Lin,K. P. Shravan Kumar,Hung-Chi Lin,Chih-Jung Chang,Chia-Chen Lu,Tsung-Teng Huang,Jan Martel,David M. Ojcius,Yu-Sun Chang,John D. Young,Hsin-Chih Lai +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that CD24 represents a novel CSC biomarker in NPC, which possesses typical CSC characteristics that include enhanced cell proliferation, increased colony and sphere formation, maintenance of cell differentiation potential in prolonged culture, and enhanced resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
cis-Resveratrol produces anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting canonical and non-canonical inflammasomes in macrophages
Tsung-Teng Huang,Hsin-Chih Lai,Young-Bin Chen,Lih-Geeng Chen,Yi-Hui Wu,Yun-Fei Ko,Chia-Chen Lu,Chih-Jung Chang,Cheng-Yeu Wu,Jan Martel,David M. Ojcius,Kowit-Yu Chong,John D. Young +12 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that cis-resveratrol produces anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting both the canonical and non-canonical inflammasomes, and associated pathways in human macrophages.
