Journal ArticleDOI
Exon skipping and dystrophin restoration in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy after systemic phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomer treatment: an open-label, phase 2, dose-escalation study.
Sebahattin Cirak,Virginia Arechavala-Gomeza,Michela Guglieri,Lucy Feng,Silvia Torelli,Karen Anthony,Stephen Abbs,M. E. Garralda,John P. Bourke,Dominic J. Wells,George Dickson,Matthew J.A. Wood,Steve D. Wilton,Volker Straub,Ryszard Kole,Stephen B. Shrewsbury,Caroline Sewry,Jennifer E. Morgan,Kate Bushby,Francesco Muntoni +19 more
TL;DR: The safety and biochemical efficacy presented show the potential of AVI-4658 to become a disease-modifying drug for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Importance of lead selection in QT interval measurement.
J.Campbell Cowan,J.Campbell Cowan,Khalid Yusoff,Khalid Yusoff,Malcolm Moore,Malcolm Moore,Paul A. Amos,Paul A. Amos,Ann E. Gold,Ann E. Gold,John P. Bourke,John P. Bourke,S. Tansuphaswadikul,S. Tansuphaswadikul,Ronald W.F. Campbell,Ronald W.F. Campbell +15 more
TL;DR: There is a need for standardization of lead selection practice for QT measurement if measurements are confined to one or a few leads, anteroseptal leads provide the closest approximation to QTmax.
Journal ArticleDOI
Managing Duchenne muscular dystrophy--the additive effect of spinal surgery and home nocturnal ventilation in improving survival.
Michelle Eagle,John P. Bourke,R. E. Bullock,Michael J. Gibson,Jwalant S. Mehta,Dave Giddings,Volker Straub,Kate Bushby +7 more
TL;DR: Spinal surgery does not increase forced vital capacity but in combination with nocturnal ventilation further improves median survival to 30 years, and Nocturnal ventilation improves survival in DMD.
Journal ArticleDOI
107th ENMC International Workshop: the management of cardiac involvement in muscular dystrophy and myotonic dystrophy. 7th-9th June 2002, Naarden, the Netherlands
TL;DR: The aims of the workshop were to agree and report minimum recommendations for the investigation and treatment of cardiac involvement in muscular and myotonic dystrophies, and define areas where further research is needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiac involvement in mitochondrial DNA disease: clinical spectrum, diagnosis, and management.
Matthew G.D. Bates,John P. Bourke,Carla Giordano,Giulia d'Amati,Douglass M. Turnbull,Douglass M. Turnbull,Robert W. Taylor +6 more
TL;DR: Recent advances in the understanding of the clinical spectrum and genetic aetiology of cardiac involvement in mitochondrial DNA disease have important implications for cardiologists in terms of the investigation and multi-disciplinary management of patients.
