Journal ArticleDOI
Retinal ischemia: mechanisms of damage and potential therapeutic strategies.
TL;DR: Given the increasing understanding of the events involved in ischemic neuronal injury, it is hoped that clinically effective treatments for retinal ischemia will soon be available.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuroprotection in Relation to Retinal Ischemia and Relevance to Glaucoma
TL;DR: Present information supports the working hypothesis that ganglion cell death may result from a particular form of ischemia, and it is of interest that betaxolol, a beta-blocker presently used to reduce IOP in humans, also has calcium channel-blocking functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Definition of glaucoma: clinical and experimental concepts
TL;DR: It is proposed that ‘experimental glaucoma’ be restricted to animal models with demonstrable features of GON and/or evidence of a primary axonopathy at the optic nerve head.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The genome-wide association study for open-angle glaucoma (OAG) blindness using a discovery cohort of 590 individuals with severe visual field loss and 3,956 controls shows retinal expression of genes at both loci at TMCO1 and CDKN2B-AS1 in human ocular tissues.

TL;DR: This paper reported a genome-wide association study for open-angle glaucoma (OAG) blindness using a discovery cohort of 590 individuals with severe visual field loss (cases) and 3,956 controls.
