Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic regions flanking E-box binding sites influence DNA binding specificity of bHLH transcription factors through DNA shape
TL;DR: Custom protein-binding microarrays are used to analyze TF specificity for putative binding sites in their genomic sequence context and suggest that nucleotides outside E-box binding sites contribute to specificity by influencing the three-dimensional structure of DNA binding sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modest Increase in Peak VO2 Is Related to Better Clinical Outcomes in Chronic Heart Failure Patients Results From Heart Failure and a Controlled Trial to Investigate Outcomes of Exercise Training
Ann M. Swank,John R. Horton,Jerome Fleg,Gregg C. Fonarow,Steven J. Keteyian,Lee R. Goldberg,Gene Wolfel,Eileen M. Handberg,Dan Bensimhon,Marie Christine Illiou,Marianne Vest,Greg Ewald,Gordon Blackburn,Eric S. Leifer,Lawton Cooper,William E. Kraus +15 more
TL;DR: Among patients with chronic systolic heart failure, a modest increase in peak VO2 over 3 months was associated with a more favorable outcome, and monitoring the change in peakVO2 for such patients may have benefit in assessing prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative modeling of transcription factor binding specificities using DNA shape
Tianyin Zhou,Ning Shen,Lin Yang,Namiko Abe,John R. Horton,Richard S. Mann,Harmen J. Bussemaker,Raluca Gordân,Remo Rohs +8 more
TL;DR: This work trained quantitative models of TF binding specificity based on protein binding microarray (PBM) data for 68 mammalian TFs, and showed that shape-augmented models compared favorably to sequence-based models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Admission, Discharge, or Change in B-Type Natriuretic Peptide and Long-Term Outcomes Data From Organized Program to Initiate Lifesaving Treatment in Hospitalized Patients With Heart Failure (OPTIMIZE-HF) Linked to Medicare Claims
Robb D. Kociol,John R. Horton,Gregg C. Fonarow,Eric M. Reyes,Linda K. Shaw,Christopher M. O'Connor,G. Michael Felker,Adrian F. Hernandez +7 more
TL;DR: Discharge BNP best predicts 1-year mortality and/or rehospitalization among older patients hospitalized with heart failure and plus clinical variables modestly improves risk classification and model discrimination for long-term outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short- and long-term outcomes following atrial fibrillation in patients with acute coronary syndromes with or without ST-segment elevation
Renato D. Lopes,Karen S. Pieper,John R. Horton,Sana M. Al-Khatib,L K Newby,Rajendra H. Mehta,F. Van de Werf,Paul W. Armstrong,Kenneth W. Mahaffey,Robert A. Harrington,Erik Magnus Ohman,Harvey D. White,Lars Wallentin,Christopher B. Granger +13 more
TL;DR: An association of AF with short- and long-term mortality among patients with STEMI and NSTE-ACS was found and may lead to better care of patients with this common arrhythmia.
