Incidence and Trends of Sepsis in US Hospitals Using Clinical vs Claims Data, 2009-2014
Chanu Rhee,Chanu Rhee,Raymund Dantes,Raymund Dantes,Lauren Epstein,David J. Murphy,Christopher W. Seymour,Theodore J. Iwashyna,Sameer S Kadri,Derek C. Angus,Robert L. Danner,Anthony E. Fiore,John A. Jernigan,Greg S. Martin,Edward Septimus,Edward Septimus,David K. Warren,Anita Karcz,Christina Chan,John T. Menchaca,Rui Wang,Susan Gruber,Michael Klompas,Michael Klompas +23 more
TL;DR: In clinical data from 409 hospitals, sepsis was present in 6% of adult hospitalizations, and in contrast to claims-based analyses, neither the incidence of sepsi nor the combined outcome of death or discharge to hospice changed significantly between 2009-2014.
Journal ArticleDOI
State and Local Chronic Disease Surveillance Using Electronic Health Record Systems
Michael Klompas,Noelle M. Cocoros,John T. Menchaca,Diana Erani,Ellen Hafer,Brian Herrick,Mark E. Josephson,Michael Lee,Michelle Weiss,Bob Zambarano,Karen Eberhardt,Jessica Malenfant,Laura Nasuti,Thomas Land +13 more
TL;DR: Chronic disease surveillance using electronic health record data is feasible and generates estimates comparable with Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System state and small-area estimates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development and validation of an automated HIV prediction algorithm to identify candidates for pre-exposure prophylaxis: a modelling study.
Douglas S. Krakower,Douglas S. Krakower,Douglas S. Krakower,Susan Gruber,Katherine K. Hsu,John T. Menchaca,Judith C. Maro,Benjamin A. Kruskal,Ira B. Wilson,Kenneth H. Mayer,Michael Klompas +10 more
TL;DR: An automated prediction algorithm that uses electronic health record (EHR) data to identify individuals at increased risk for HIV acquisition and successfully identified patients independently prescribed PrEP by clinicians is developed and validated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultra-Short-Course Antibiotics for Patients With Suspected Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia but Minimal and Stable Ventilator Settings
TL;DR: Very short antibiotic courses (1- 3 days) were associated with outcomes similar to longer courses (>3 days) in patients with suspected VAP but minimal and stable ventilator settings in patients prescribed 1-3 days vs >3 days of antibiotics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oral vancomycin prophylaxis during systemic antibiotic exposure to prevent Clostridiodes difficile infection relapses.
Daniel A. Caroff,John T. Menchaca,Zilu Zhang,Chanu Rhee,Michael S. Calderwood,David W. Kubiak,Deborah S. Yokoe,Michael Klompas +7 more
TL;DR: Prophylactic oral vancomycin prophylaxis accompanying systemic antibiotics reduces the risk of relapse in patients with history of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), but patients with only 1 prior CDI episode may benefit.
