Statistics in Medicine — Reporting of Subgroup Analyses in Clinical Trials
TL;DR: The analysis of subgroups is often used as a way to glean additional information from data sets and the strengths and weaknesses of this approach and new Journal policies concerning the reporting of subgroup analyses are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence and Trends of Sepsis in US Hospitals Using Clinical vs Claims Data, 2009-2014
Chanu Rhee,Chanu Rhee,Raymund Dantes,Raymund Dantes,Lauren Epstein,David J. Murphy,Christopher W. Seymour,Theodore J. Iwashyna,Sameer S Kadri,Derek C. Angus,Robert L. Danner,Anthony E. Fiore,John A. Jernigan,Greg S. Martin,Edward Septimus,Edward Septimus,David K. Warren,Anita Karcz,Christina Chan,John T. Menchaca,Rui Wang,Susan Gruber,Michael Klompas,Michael Klompas +23 more
TL;DR: In clinical data from 409 hospitals, sepsis was present in 6% of adult hospitalizations, and in contrast to claims-based analyses, neither the incidence of sepsi nor the combined outcome of death or discharge to hospice changed significantly between 2009-2014.
Journal ArticleDOI
Racial/Ethnic Differences in Sleep Disturbances: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).
Xiaoli Chen,Rui Wang,Phyllis C. Zee,Pamela L. Lutsey,Sogol Javaheri,Carmela Alcántara,Chandra L. Jackson,Michelle A. Williams,Susan Redline +8 more
TL;DR: The distributions of objectively measured sleep disordered breathing (SDB), short sleep duration, poor sleep quality, and self-reported sleep disturbances across racial/ethnic groups are quantified to contribute to health disparities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic and predictive value of common mutations for treatment response and survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.
John Souglakos,Juliet Philips,Rui Wang,S Marwah,M Silver,Maria Tzardi,Jonathan S. Silver,Shuji Ogino,Shuji Ogino,Susanne M. Hooshmand,Eunice L. Kwak,Ellen Freed,Jeffrey A. Meyerhardt,Z. Saridaki,V. Georgoulias,Dianne M. Finkelstein,Charles S. Fuchs,Matthew H. Kulke,Ramesh A. Shivdasani +18 more
TL;DR: These results underscore the potential of mutational profiling to identify CRCs with different natural histories or treatment responses and the adverse significance of BRAF mutation should inform patient selection and stratification in clinical trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of Stat3 sequence-specific DNA binding and transcription by p300/CREB-binding protein-mediated acetylation
TL;DR: The acetylation of Stat3 can stimulate its sequence-specific DNA binding ability and transactivation activity, and inhibition of histone deacetylase activity in cells results in increased Stat3 nuclear localization.
