α5β1 Integrin Signaling Mediates Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein–Induced Inflammation and Early Atherosclerosis
Arif Yurdagul,Jonette M Green,Patrick Albert,Marshall C. McInnis,Andrew P. Mazar,A. Wayne Orr +5 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that &agr;5&bgr;1-mediated cross-talk between fibronectin and oxLDL regulates inflammation in early atherogenesis and that therapeutics that inhibit &agR;5 integrins may reduce inflammation without adversely affecting plaque structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
αvβ3 Integrins Mediate Flow-Induced NF-κB Activation, Proinflammatory Gene Expression, and Early Atherogenic Inflammation.
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of αβ3 integrins in mediating shear stress-induced proinflammatory responses and early atherogenic inflammation was investigated, and αvβ3 was identified as the primary integrin heterodimer mediating inflammatory responses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Matrix-Specific Protein Kinase A Signaling Regulates p21-Activated Kinase Activation by Flow in Endothelial Cells
Steven D. Funk,Arif Yurdagul,Jonette M Green,Krishna A. Jhaveri,Martin A. Schwartz,A. Wayne Orr +5 more
TL;DR: Basement membrane proteins inhibit inflammatory signaling in endothelial cells via PKA-dependent inhibition of PAK, and it is shown that matrix composition does not affect the upstream pathway by which flow activates PAK (integrin activation, Rac).
Journal ArticleDOI
EphA2 Expression Regulates Inflammation and Fibroproliferative Remodeling in Atherosclerosis.
Alexandra C. Finney,Steven D. Funk,Jonette M Green,Arif Yurdagul,Mohammad Atif Rana,Rebecca Pistorius,Miriam Henry,Andrew D. Yurochko,Christopher B. Pattillo,James G. Traylor,Jin Chen,Matthew D. Woolard,Christopher G. Kevil,A. Wayne Orr +13 more
TL;DR: A novel role is identified for EphA2 in atherosclerosis, regulating both plaque inflammation and progression to advanced atherosclerotic lesions by regulating smooth muscle proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flow patterns regulate hyperglycemia-induced subendothelial matrix remodeling during early atherogenesis
TL;DR: Data demonstrate that flow patterns and hyperglycemia coordinately regulate subendothelial fibronectin deposition during early atherogenesis, and it is shown that plaque formation occurs at discrete vascular sites exposed to disturbed blood flow patterns, whereas regions exposed to laminar flow are protected.
