Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of porcine circovirus type 2 infection in a herd of pigs with postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome.
G. M. Rodríguez-Arrioja,Joaquim Segalés,Maria Calsamiglia,A. R. Resendes,Monica Balasch,J. Plana-Durán,Jordi Casal,Mariano Domingo +7 more
TL;DR: A long duration of PCV2 viremia was apparent in a high percentage of infected pigs, which may affect transmission and persistence of the virus in a herd.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection, excretion and seroconversion dynamics of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in pigs from post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) affected farms in Spain and Denmark.
Llorenç Grau-Roma,Charlotte Kristiane Hjulsager,Marina Sibila,Charlotte Sonne Kristensen,Sergio López-Soria,Claes Enøe,Jordi Casal,Anette Bøtner,Miquel Nofrarías,Vivi Bille-Hansen,Lorenzo Fraile,Poul Bækbo,Joaquim Segalés,Lars Erik Larsen +13 more
TL;DR: Results showed that PCV2 load increased in parallel to waning maternal antibody levels, reaching the maximum viral load concurrent with development of clinical signs, and qPCR appears to be a potential reliable technique to diagnose PMWS on a population basis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biosecurity measures on swine farms in Spain: Perceptions by farmers and their relationship to current on-farm measures
TL;DR: Knowing the relationships between perceptions and measures taken is important in developing effective biosecurity strategies on pig farms because of the importance that farmers attributed to each measure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal study of hepatitis E virus infection in Spanish farrow-to-finish swine herds
Maribel Casas,Raquel Cortés,Sonia Pina,Bibiana Peralta,Alberto Allepuz,Martí Cortey,Jordi Casal,Marga Martín +7 more
TL;DR: Pigs can be seronegative at slaughter age being infected during the latest fattening period, and Manipulation of HEV-infected livers or other organs from pigs could be considered a possible route of transmission in Spanish abattoirs.
Journal ArticleDOI
An exploratory study on risk factors for postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) in Spain.
Sergio López-Soria,Joaquim Segalés,Nicolas Rose,M.J. Viñas,Philippe Blanchard,François Madec,André Jestin,Jordi Casal,Mariano Domingo +8 more
TL;DR: An exploratory case-control study was carried out in Spain in 2002/2003, involving 62 pig farms of different production systems, to assess risk factors that, in association with PCV2 infection, induce postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) expression.
