Brazil's neglected biome: The South Brazilian Campos
Gerhard E. Overbeck,Sandra Cristina Müller,Alessandra Fidelis,Jörg Pfadenhauer,Valério D. Pillar,Carolina C. Blanco,Ilsi Iob Boldrini,Rogério Both,Eduardo Dias Forneck +8 more
TL;DR: Urgent needs are identified to create more conservation units in different regions, including different grassland types throughout southern Brazil, to develop proper management strategies where grasslands are subject to shrub encroachment and forest expansion and to raise public awareness of the value and vulnerability of this vegetation type.
Journal ArticleDOI
Driving factors behind the eutrophication signal in understorey plant communities of deciduous temperate forests
Kris Verheyen,Lander Baeten,Pieter De Frenne,Markus Bernhardt-Römermann,Jörg Brunet,Johnny Cornelis,Guillaume Decocq,Hartmut Dierschke,Ove Eriksson,Radim Hédl,Thilo Heinken,Martin Hermy,P.W.F.M. Hommel,Keith Kirby,Tobias Naaf,G. F. Peterken,Petr Petřík,Jörg Pfadenhauer,Hans Van Calster,Gian-Reto Walther,Monika Wulf,Gorik Verstraeten +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the contribution of atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition versus other ecological drivers on forest understorey plant communities by combining a temporal and spatial approach was assessed by combining data from 1205 (semi-permanent vegetation plots taken from 23 rigorously selected under-storey resurvey studies along a large deposition gradient across deciduous temperate forest in Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying nighttime ecosystem respiration of a meadow using eddy covariance, chambers and modelling
Georg Wohlfahrt,Christian Anfang,Michael Bahn,Alois Haslwanter,Christian Newesely,Michael Schmitt,Matthias Drösler,Jörg Pfadenhauer,Alexander Cernusca +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantify the ecosystem respiration of a mountain meadow in the Austrian Alps during the vegetation period 2002 by constraining nighttime eddy covariance measurements with ecosystems respiration derived from scaled up leaf and soil chamber measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fine-scale post-fire dynamics in southern Brazilian subtropical grassland
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of fire on species richness and diversity in subtropical grassland in southern Brazil, and found that fire leads to a short-term increase in species richness at the plot scale, as competitive interactions are being reduced and recruitment possibilities are high in early post-fire vegetation development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Restoration of wet fen meadows by topsoil removal : Vegetation development and germination biology of fen species
TL;DR: Repeated vegetation analysis showed that a combination of topsoil removal and hay transfer resulted in the establishment of new populations in the target area for 70% of the species of the donor area.
