Multiagent systems: a modern approach to distributed artificial intelligence

GlobalEdu is a generic model created to support learning in ubiquitous computing environments. This model has the necessary support to implement learning-related functionalities in ubiquitous environments. The basic ubiquitous computing support must be supplied by a middleware where GlobalEdu lays atop. This paper proposes the integration of GlobalEdu with two middlewares: ISAM and LOCAL. ISAM supports the creation of large-scale ubiquitous systems. As such, its integration with GlobalEdu results in large-scale ubiquitous learning environments. On the other hand, LOCAL is dedicated to create small-scale, location and context-aware ubiquitous learning environments. The integration between GlobalEdu and LOCAL results in a local ubiquitous learning system. We created a practical scenario, where our proposal was evaluated.

Para promover a reutilizacao de conteudos de aprendizagem e necessario promover a sua normalizacao para que possam funcionar corretamente em qualquer sistema de e-learning. A normalizacao permite: uma facil reutilizacao; a portabilidade dos conteudos criados; a padronizacao dos processos de criacao; e a gestao dos conteudos de aprendizagem. Porem, normalizar os conteudos de um ambiente de EAD ja existente nao e uma tarefa trivial e necessita de uma adequacao tanto dos conteudos de aprendizagem quanto do sistema de e-learning, pois toda a arquitetura e alterada, sendo necessario separar o conteudo da estrutura. A proposta utiliza Agentes de Software baseados em Web Services, os quais permitem uma eficiente descricao de servicos atraves de suas tecnologias padroes. A Fabrica usa um conjunto de servicos para a manipulacao e adequacao de recursos educacionais usando a norma SCORM.

The next years will be characterized for high levels of mobility, heterogeneity and interactions among devices connected to global networks. These interconnected networks will use as much wired connections as wireless. The first researches involving wide-area distributed systems answered many questions conceming resource management, although they fail in treating questions related to heterogeneity and dynamic adaptation. More recent works, through technologies like CORBA and JavalJini, deal with heterogeneity problem, but do not deepen into adaptability aspects. In this article, we propose inside of the project ISAM, a treatment of this subject. ISAM contemplates an integrated approach of software and execution environment addressed to the administration of adaptation in heterogeneous networks, supporting the logical (software) and physical (hardware) mobility, oriented to the execution of distributed applications in aglobaI scale and based on software components.

ISAM is a middleware directed to resource management in heterogeneous networks, supporting physical and logical mobilities, dynamic adaptation and the execution of distributed mobile applications based on components. In order to achieve its goal, ISAM uses, as strategy, an integrated environment that: (a) provides a programming paradigm and its execution environment; (b) handles the adaptation process through a multilevel collaborative model, in which both the system and the application contribute.
