A global experiment suggests climate warming will not accelerate litter decomposition in streams but might reduce carbon sequestration

TL;DR: It is found that climate warming will likely hasten microbial litter decomposition and produce an equivalent decline in detritivore-mediated decomposition rates, which implies consequences for global biogeochemistry and a possible positive climate feedback.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global patterns of stream detritivore distribution: implications for biodiversity loss in changing climates

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used linear regression to examine the latitudinal variation in shredder diversity at different spatial scales: alpha (a), gamma (g) and beta (b) diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of stream ecological integrity using litter decomposition and benthic invertebrates.
TL;DR: Both functional and structural approaches gave the same results for the most impacted site (S4), and were complementary for moderately impacted sites (S2 and S3), and support the need for incorporating functional measures in evaluations of stream ecological integrity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aquatic hyphomycetes, benthic macroinvertebrates and leaf litter decomposition in streams naturally differing in riparian vegetation
Verónica Ferreira,José Castela,Paulo Rosa,Alan M. Tonin,Luz Boyero,Luz Boyero,Luz Boyero,Manuel A. S. Graça +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors surveyed 10 small non-impacted forest streams in central Portugal for riparian vegetation (species richness), benthic litter, aquatic communities and litter decomposition.
