Cross-modal domain adaptation for text-based regularization of image semantics in image retrieval systems
TL;DR: This work considers the problem of improving the accuracy of semantic descriptors through cross-modal regularization, based on auxiliary text, and proposes a non-linear mapping, implemented as a piecewise linear transformation of the semantic image descriptors to regularize.

Maximum Covariance Unfolding : Manifold Learning for Bimodal Data
Vijay Mahadevan,Chi W. Wong,Jose Costa Pereira,Thomas T. Liu,Nuno Vasconcelos,Lawrence K. Saul +5 more
TL;DR: This paper uses maximum covariance unfolding (MCU), a manifold learning algorithm for simultaneous dimensionality reduction of data from different input modalities, to analyze EEG-fMRI data and develops a fast implementation based on ideas from spectral graph theory.

On the regularization of image semantics by modal expansion
TL;DR: Regularization of a state-of-the-art approach to image retrieval is shown to produce substantial gains in retrieval accuracy, outperforming recent image retrieval approaches.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Sentiment retrieval on web reviews using spontaneous natural speech
TL;DR: This paper introduces a framework for polarity analysis of sentiments that can accommodate combinations of different modalities capable of dealing with the absence of any modality and shows that it is possible to improve average precision on speech transcriptions' sentiment retrieval by means of regularization.
