TL;DR: In this article, a meta-analysis of general population cohorts was conducted to assess the independent and combined associations of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and albuminuria with mortality.

Cohort Profile: The HUNT Study, Norway
Steinar Krokstad,Arnulf Langhammer,Kristian Hveem,Turid Lingaas Holmen,Kristian Midthjell,TR Stene,Grete Helen Bratberg,Jon Heggland,Jostein Holmen +8 more
TL;DR: The HUNT Study includes large total population-based cohorts from the 1980ies, covering 125 000 Norwegian participants; HUNT1 (1984-86), HUNT2 (1995-97) and HUNT3 (2006-08), which contribute to important knowledge regarding health related lifestyle, prevalence and incidence of somatic and mental illness and disease, health determinants, and associations between disease phenotypes and genotypes.
Journal ArticleDOI
International Comparison of the Relationship of Chronic Kidney Disease Prevalence and ESRD Risk
Stein Hallan,Josef Coresh,Brad C. Astor,Arne Åsberg,Neil R. Powe,Solfrid Romundstad,Solfrid Romundstad,Hans Hallan,Stian Lydersen,Jostein Holmen +9 more
TL;DR: CKD prevalence in Norway was similar to that in the United States, suggesting that lower progression to ESRD rather than a smaller pool of individuals at risk accounts for the lower incidence of E SRD in Norway.
The Nord-Trøndelag Health Study 1995-97 (HUNT 2): Objectives, contents, methods and participation
Jostein Holmen,Kristian Midthjell,O Krüger,Arnulf Langhammer,Turid Lingaas Holmen,Grete Helen Bratberg,Lars J. Vatten,Per G. Lund-Larsen +7 more
TL;DR: There was a decline in participation rate from HUNT 1 to HUNT 2 (16.9%).
Journal ArticleDOI

Stolk,Matti Uusitupa,Pim van der Harst,Melanie M. van der Klauw,Melanie Waldenberger,Markus Perola,Markus Perola,Markus Perola,Bruce H. R. Wolffenbuttel +48 more
TL;DR: There is considerable variability in the prevalence of healthy obesity across the different European populations studied, even when unified criteria were used to classify this phenotype.
