Ticagrelor versus Clopidogrel in Symptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease
William R. Hiatt,F. Gerry Fowkes,Gretchen M. Heizer,Jeffrey S. Berger,Iris Baumgartner,Peter Held,Brian G. Katona,Kenneth W. Mahaffey,Lars Norgren,W. Schuyler Jones,Juuso I. Blomster,Marcus Millegård,Craig J. Reist,Manesh R. Patel +13 more
TL;DR: In patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease, ticagrelor was not shown to be superior to clopidogrel for the reduction of cardiovascular events and major bleeding occurred at similar rates among the patients in the two trial groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors on cardiovascular events, death, and major safety outcomes in adults with type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Jason H Y Wu,Celine Foote,Celine Foote,Juuso I. Blomster,Juuso I. Blomster,Tadashi Toyama,Vlado Perkovic,Vlado Perkovic,Johan Sundström,Bruce Neal,Bruce Neal,Bruce Neal +11 more
TL;DR: Net protection of SGLT2 inhibitors against cardiovascular outcomes and death is suggested, driven by findings for empagliflozin (the only S GLT2 inhibitor for which data from a dedicated long-term cardiovascular safety trial have been reported), although results for the other drugs in the class were not clearly different.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electronic health records to facilitate clinical research.
Martin R. Cowie,Juuso I. Blomster,Juuso I. Blomster,Lesley H. Curtis,Sylvie Duclaux,Ian Ford,Fleur Fritz,Samantha Goldman,Salim Janmohamed,Jörg Kreuzer,Mark Leenay,Alexander Michel,Seleen Ong,Jill P. Pell,Mary Ross Southworth,Wendy Gattis Stough,Martin Thoenes,Faiez Zannad,Faiez Zannad,Andrew Zalewski +19 more
TL;DR: This manuscript identifies the key steps required to advance the role of electronic health records in cardiovascular clinical research and highlights the importance of collaboration between academia, industry, regulatory bodies, policy makers, patients, and electronic health record vendors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ticagrelor Compared With Clopidogrel in Patients With Prior Lower Extremity Revascularization for Peripheral Artery Disease.
W. Schuyler Jones,Iris Baumgartner,William R. Hiatt,Gretchen M. Heizer,Michael S. Conte,Christopher J. White,Jeffrey S. Berger,Peter Held,Brian G. Katona,Kenneth W. Mahaffey,Lars Norgren,Juuso I. Blomster,Marcus Millegård,Craig J. Reist,Manesh R. Patel,F. Gerry R. Fowkes +15 more
TL;DR: In patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease with a history of limb revascularization, the optimal antithrombotic regimen for long-term management is unknown as discussed by the authors, and the optimal regimen is unknown.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Relationship Between Alcohol Consumption and Vascular Complications and Mortality in Individuals With Type 2 Diabetes
Juuso I. Blomster,Juuso I. Blomster,Sophia Zoungas,Sophia Zoungas,John Chalmers,Qiang Li,Clara K Chow,Mark Woodward,Mark Woodward,Giuseppe Mancia,Neil Poulter,Bryan Williams,Stephen B. Harrap,Bruce Neal,Anushka Patel,Graham S. Hillis +15 more
TL;DR: In patients with type 2 diabetes, moderate alcohol use, particularly wine consumption, is associated with reduced risks of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality.
