A survey of content-based image retrieval with high-level semantics

Using sigma-delta A/D methods, high resolution can be obtained for only low to medium signal bandwidths. This article describes conventional A/D conversion, as well as its performance modeling. We then look at the technique of oversampling, which can be used to improve the resolution of classical A/D methods. We discuss how sigma-delta converters use the technique of noise shaping in addition to oversampling to allow high resolution conversion of relatively low bandwidth signals. We examine the use of sigma-delta converters to convert narrowband bandpass signals with high resolution. Several parallel sigma-delta converters, which offer the potential of extending high resolution conversion to signals with higher bandwidths, are also described.

Form a privacy perspective most concerns against the common use of biometrics arise from the storage and misuse of biometric data. Biometric cryptosystems and cancelable biometrics represent emerging technologies of biometric template protection addressing these concerns and improving public confidence and acceptance of biometrics. In addition, biometric cryptosystems provide mechanisms for biometric-dependent key-release. In the last years a significant amount of approaches to both technologies have been published. A comprehensive survey of biometric cryptosystems and cancelable biometrics is presented. A survey on biometric cryptosystems and cancelable biometrics

We present a random forest-based framework for real time head pose estimation from depth images and extend it to localize a set of facial features in 3D. Our algorithm takes a voting approach, where each patch extracted from the depth image can directly cast a vote for the head pose or each of the facial features. Our system proves capable of handling large rotations, partial occlusions, and the noisy depth data acquired using commercial sensors. Moreover, the algorithm works on each frame independently and achieves real time performance without resorting to parallel computations on a GPU. We present extensive experiments on publicly available, challenging datasets and present a new annotated head pose database recorded using a Microsoft Kinect.

Embodiments are directed towards authenticating users using biometric devices. The biometric device may be arranged to capture one or more biometric feature of a user that may be wearing the biometric device such as biometric features that correspond to an electrocardiogram of the user. The user of the biometric device may be authenticated based on one or more biometric features, or a combination thereof. Authenticating the user of the biometric device, may include communicating information that includes biometric features to an authorized authentication device (AAD). When the user is authenticated, the biometric device may be preauthorized for the user. When the preauthorized biometric device senses at least one access point, an authorization signal may be provided to the access point. If the preauthorized biometric device is removed from the user, the biometric device is deauthorized, disabling access to access points by the user.

A postprocessing method for the correction of visual demosaicking artifacts is introduced. The restored, full-color images previously obtained by cost-effective color filter array interpolators are processed to improve their visual quality. Based on a localized color ratio model and the original underlying Bayer pattern structure, the proposed solution impressively removes false colors while maintaining image sharpness. At the same time, it yields excellent improvements in terms of objective image quality measures.

Demosaicked image postprocessing using local color ratios

An 8-MHz seventh-degree elliptic-function low-pass filter is described, demonstrating an approach to low-distortion antialias filtering for high-definition video applications. The filter's performance goals are achieved through the use of circuit design principles that capitalize on the strengths of BiCMOS technology. The integrator circuits composing the filter consist of a new wideband low-distortion transconductor circuit and a unique BiCMOS Miller-stage circuit. Integrator time constants are determined by stable RC products, enabling a simplified filter calibration scheme that is insensitive to temperature-induced variations and requires no phaselock circuits. The prototype filter IC, consisting of seven integrators assembled in an active-ladder configuration, was fabricated in a 10-V, 2- mu m 2.5-GHz BiCMOS technology that also features thin-film resistors and polysilicon-plate capacitors. Measured results from the calibrated filter show passband flatness of 0.2 dB, with aberrations of less than +or-1 dB over a 100 degrees C temperature range. Stopband attenuation meets its designed goal of 60 dB. Driven by 7-V/sub pp/, differential input signals, the filter exhibits less than -72-dBc third-order intermodulation distortion products at 1 MHz. For 5-V/sub pp/ inputs at 4 MHz, third-order intermodulation spurs remain below -65 dBc. >
