Journal ArticleDOI
Acute and chronic toxicity of tributyltin and linear alkylbenzene sulfonate to the marine copepod Acartia tonsa
TL;DR: The test method using larval survival and development is easy to perform and nonlaborious compared to, for example, a reproduction test with Daphnia magna, and the acute test method as well as the egg–embryo test method may be suitable for standardization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards an internationally harmonized test method for reproductive and developmental effects of endocrine disrupters in marine copepods
K. Ole Kusk,Leah Wollenberger +1 more
TL;DR: An overview on the endocrine system of crustaceans with special emphasis on development and reproduction, which are targets for endocrine disruption, is given, and available methods for detecting effects onDevelopment and reproduction in calanoid and harpacticoid copepods are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Statistical treatment of data from microbial toxicity tests
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a general discussion of the problem of analyzing data from microbial toxicity tests and give some examples of feasible methods, including nonlinear regression and weighted linear regression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strain difference in sensitivity to 3,4-dichloroaniline and insect growth regulator, fenoxycarb, in Daphnia magna
Shigeto Oda,Norihisa Tatarazako,Michael Dorgerloh,Rodney D. Johnson,K. Ole Kusk,Dean Leverett,Silvia Marchini,Tarja Nakari,Tim D. Williams,Taisen Iguchi +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that induction of male sex in neonates by a juvenile hormone analog is universal among genetically different strains and may obscure the incidence of male neonates production in the 21-day reproduction tests due to the low statistical power.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fully defined saltwater medium for cultivation of and toxicity testing with marine copepod Acartia tonsa
K. Ole Kusk,Leah Wollenberger +1 more
TL;DR: The marine copepod Acartia tonsa and the food organism Rhodomonas salina were cultured in fully defined medium for 8 months without problems and the defined medium may be used for cultivation and testing, thus avoiding unknown background contaminants.
