Journal ArticleDOI
Frontal hypermetabolism and thalamic hypometabolism in a patient with abnormal orienting and retrosplenial amnesia.
Kenneth M. Heilman,Dawn Bowers,Dawn Bowers,Dawn Bowers,Robert T. Watson,Robert T. Watson,Robert T. Watson,Arthur L. Day,Arthur L. Day,Arthur L. Day,Edward Valenstein,Edward Valenstein,Edward Valenstein,E. J. Hammond,E. J. Hammond,E. J. Hammond,Ranjan Duara +16 more
TL;DR: A patient with verbal amnesia and a propensity to direct his attention to the right following a retrosplenial area lesion was studied with positron emission tomography and it was posited that interruption of hippocampal input into the anterior thalamus was responsible for the amnesia, and the left frontal hyperactivity was associated with the propensity to attend contralaterally.
Journal ArticleDOI
Malignant progression in parietal-dominant atrophy subtype of Alzheimer's disease occurs independent of onset age.
TL;DR: The P subtype appears to be a unique subtype of AD characterized by an aggressive rate of progression characterized by a rapid progression in attention, language, visuospatial, memory, and frontal executive function.
Journal Article
Daily ambulatory activity levels in idiopathic Parkinson disease.
Frank M. Skidmore,Chad A Mackman,Breckon Pav,Lisa M. Shulman,Cyndi W. Garvan,Richard F. Macko,Kenneth M. Heilman +6 more
TL;DR: The number of steps taken correlated highly with disease severity, and SAMs may be useful outcome measures in PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Attentional grasp in far extrapersonal space after thalamic infarction.
Anna M. Barrett,Ronald L. Schwartz,Gregory P. Crucian,Gregory P. Crucian,Manho Kim,Kenneth M. Heilman,Kenneth M. Heilman +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that frontal-thalamic systems regulating visual attention may be disrupted by thalamic infarction, and damage may produce an attentional grasp specific to far extrapersonal space.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mental object rotation in Parkinson's disease.
Gregory P. Crucian,Anna M. Barrett,David W. Burks,Alonso R. Riestra,Heidi L. Roth,Ronald L. Schwartz,William J. Triggs,Dawn Bowers,William A. Friedman,Melvin Greer,Kenneth M. Heilman +10 more
TL;DR: Assessment of the Mental Rotations Test (MRT) in individuals with PD indicates that PD is associated with visual–spatial orientation deficits in men, and women with PD and control women both performed poorly on the MRT.
