Type-II core/shell CdS/ZnSe nanocrystals: synthesis, electronic structures, and spectroscopic properties.

TL;DR: A two-step synthesis of highly luminescent CdS/ZnSe core/shell nanocrystals that can produce efficient spatial separation of electrons and holes between the core and the shell (type-II localization regime) is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intercalation pathway in many-particle LiFePO4 electrode revealed by nanoscale state-of-charge mapping.

TL;DR: The quantitative results unambiguously confirm the mosaic (particle-by-particle) pathway of intercalation and suggest that the rate-limiting process of charging is initiating the phase transformation by, for example, a nucleation-like event.
Journal ArticleDOI

Energy storage emerging: A perspective from the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research.

TL;DR: Advances in the frontier of battery research to achieve transformative performance spanning energy and power density, capacity, charge/discharge times, cost, lifetime, and safety are highlighted, along with strategic research refinements made by the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) and the broader community to accommodate the changing storage needs and priorities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydration of Passive Oxide Films on Aluminum

TL;DR: In this paper, secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) was used in conjunction with isotopic labeling to determine the extent and rate of passive film hydration on aluminum, and the results suggest that defects such as hydroxide ions are prevalent and mobile in the oxide film, influencing the kinetics and mechanisms of corrosion and pitting processes.
