Aggregation-Induced Emission: Together We Shine, United We Soar!

Electrochemical energy storage technology is based on devices capable of exhibiting high energy density (batteries) or high power density (electrochemical capacitors). There is a growing need, for current and near-future applications, where both high energy and high power densities are required in the same material. Pseudocapacitance, a faradaic process involving surface or near surface redox reactions, offers a means of achieving high energy density at high charge–discharge rates. Here, we focus on the pseudocapacitive properties of transition metal oxides. First, we introduce pseudocapacitance and describe its electrochemical features. Then, we review the most relevant pseudocapacitive materials in aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes. The major challenges for pseudocapacitive materials along with a future outlook are detailed at the end.

Pseudocapacitive oxide materials for high-rate electrochemical energy storage

A room-temperature nitric oxide (NO) gas sensor is prepared by using electrochemical synthesis of conducting polymer, poly-(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and characterized by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) method. Guided by SPR angle simulation, the optimal thickness of deposited PEDOT thin film is 25 nm and the resultant lowest detection limit of NO is 8 ppm. It exhibits 1.3 times higher responses to 25 ppm of NO gas than NO2.

Room-temperature nitric oxide gas sensing of pedot thin film using surface plasmon resonance

Organic sensitizers containing dithienopyrrole donor, benzotriazole or quinoxaline in the conjugation pathway, and cyanoacrylic acid acceptor featured in a donor–acceptor-π–acceptor configuration are reported. The effect of the nature of different conjugating bridges on photophysical, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties was systematically evaluated. The incorporation auxiliary acceptors broadened the absorption spectra and modulated the excited state energy levels. The DFT calculation unraveled a significant overlap of HOMO and LUMO orbitals in benzotriazole-containing dyes and the charge transfer character for the longer wavelength absorption. Among the dyes, a dye containing benzotriazole and thiophene in the conjugation pathway exhibited highest power conversion efficiency attributable to efficient electron injection and pronounced inhibition of electron recombination.

Effect of electron-deficient linkers on the physical and photovoltaic properties of dithienopyrrole-based organic dyes

Boron-Doped Reduced Graphene Oxide (B-RGO) and Its Application to L-Cysteine Sensing

In2O3‐ZnO composite thin films were fabricated and their NOx sensing characteristics were investigated in this study. The content of ZnO in In2O3‐ZnO thin film was controlled by adjusting the Zn2+/In3+ molar ratio (r) during the film preparation. The results showed that the incorporation of ZnO into the In2O3 thin film can greatly improve the sensor reponse to NOx at operation temperature below 200° C. However, as the ZnO content was further increased, the grain of the composite film started to merge into big ones, and thus decreased the surface area, resulting in lower sensor responses. The detection limit (S/N = 3) of In2O3‐ZnO composite film (r = 0.67) reached 12 ppb at 150° C. Both pure In2O3 and In2O3‐ZnO composit films (r = 0.67) showed no response to CO gas.
