TL;DR: Key aspects of the physics of this approach, which has some features in common with related but comparatively low-resolution techniques for graphic arts, are revealed through direct high-speed imaging of the droplet formation processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a unique topology for a hard-turning micro-scale machine tool
TL;DR: In this article, a micro-scale machine tool (mMT) topology is developed for turning hardened steel bearing components, which utilizes the principle of leverage to increase accuracy and stiffness and incorporates decoupling to reduce unwanted motion of the tool.
Journal ArticleDOI
An approach to the economic manufacture of an aerostatic lead screw for micro-scale machine tools
TL;DR: In this article, the aerostatic lead screw actuator (ALSA) was designed for use in a hard-turning micro-scale machine tool, which achieved a static stiffness of 50 N/mm and dynamic stiffness of 40 N/μm with friction below 0.1 N/m.

Hard turning micro-machine tool
TL;DR: In this article, a micro-scale apparatus for supporting a tool for hard turning comprises a base, a pivot coupled to the base, an actuator coupled to base, and at least one member coupled to actuator at one end and rotatably coupled to pivot at another end.
