Kurt Spiteri Cornish,Noemi Lois,Neil W. Scott,Jennifer Burr,Jonathan Cook,Charles Boachie,Ramin Tadayoni,Morten la Cour,Ulrik Christensen,Alvin K.H. Kwok +9 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling versus vitrectomy with no peeling for idiopathic full-thickness macular hole (FTMH)
Kurt Spiteri Cornish,Noemi Lois,Neil W. Scott,Jennifer Burr,Jonathan Cook,Charles Boachie,Ramin Tadayoni,Morten la Cour,Ulrik Christensen,Alvin K.H. Kwok +9 more
TL;DR: Whether ILM peeling improves anatomical and functional outcomes of macular hole surgery compared with the no-peeling technique is investigated and the impact of different parameters such as presenting vision, stage/size of the hole and duration of symptoms in the success of the surgery is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
The short- and long-term effects on the visual system of children following exposure to maternal substance misuse in pregnancy.
TL;DR: Exposure to maternal drug misuse in utero is associated with a statistically significantly higher prevalence of strabismus and nystagmus, which tend to persist at 5 years of age and are associated with long-term visual morbidity, such as lack of binocularity and poor visual acuity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Factors affecting visual recovery after successful repair of macula-off retinal detachments: findings from a large prospective UK cohort study
David Yorston,Phj Donachie,Phj Donachie,D. A. Laidlaw,DH Steel,John M. Sparrow,G W Aylward,Tom H Williamson,Anthony G. Casswell,Ahc Morris,Assad Jalil,Atiq R. Babar,C Goldsmith,David H. W. Charles,S Winder,T Cochrane,Tsveta Ivanova,Vasileios T Papastavrou,Tanner +31 more
TL;DR: From the identified risk factors that decrease the probability of achieving a post-operative visual acuity of ≤0.30 LogMAR, the most important modifiable risk factor was the duration of central vision loss.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Epidemiology of Stargardt Disease in the United Kingdom
TL;DR: The incidence of Stargardt disease in the United Kingdom appears to be lower than that repeatedly quoted in the literature, and this is the first prospective epidemiology study that provides indication of the incidence of STGD.
