Hashimotos' thyroiditis: Epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinic and therapy
Francesca Ragusa,Poupak Fallahi,Giusy Elia,Debora Gonnella,Sabrina Rosaria Paparo,Claudia Giusti,Leonid P. Churilov,Silvia Martina Ferrari,Alessandro Antonelli +8 more
TL;DR: The pathologic features of lymphocytic infiltration, especially of T cells, and follicular destruction are the histological hallmark of autoimmune thyroiditis, that lead to gradual atrophy and fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influenza infection, SARS, MERS and COVID-19: Cytokine storm - The common denominator and the lessons to be learned.
TL;DR: It is suggested that based on the similarities of the immune dysfunction in the severe cases of different respiratory viral infections, some lessons from the immunomodulatory therapy of COVID-19 could be applied for some cases of severe influenza infection and probably for some future outbreaks of novel severe respiratory virus infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sarcoidosis as an Autoimmune Disease.
Anna Starshinova,A. M. Malkova,Natalia Basantsova,Yulia Zinchenko,Igor Kudryavtsev,Igor Kudryavtsev,Gennadiy A. Ershov,Lidia A. Soprun,Vera A. Mayevskaya,Leonid P. Churilov,Piotr Yablonskiy +10 more
TL;DR: This review attempts an integral analysis of currently available information suggesting an autoimmune genesis of sarcoidosis and is divided into four categories: the evaluation of clinical signs described both in patients with sarcoIDosis and “classic” autoimmune diseases, the role of triggering factors in the development of sarCOidosis, the presence of immunogenic susceptibility in theDevelopment of the disease, and the analysis of cellular and humoral immune responses in sarcoids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complex syndromes of chronic pain, fatigue and cognitive impairment linked to autoimmune dysautonomia and small fiber neuropathy
Yehuda Shoenfeld,Varvara A Ryabkova,Carmen Scheibenbogen,Louise Brinth,Manuel Martinez-Lavin,Shuichi Ikeda,Harald Heidecke,Abdulla Watad,Nicola Luigi Bragazzi,Joab Chapman,Leonid P. Churilov,Howard Amital +11 more
TL;DR: Evidence regarding the role of autoimmunity in these four syndromes with respect to immunogenetics, autoimmune co-morbidities, alteration in immune cell subsets, production of autoantibodies and presentation in animal models is summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
The roles and applications of autoantibodies in progression, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of human malignant tumours.
TL;DR: The studies established to date suggest that autoantibodies not only regulate cancer progression but also promise to be valuable instruments in oncological diagnosis and therapy.
