Gender-Related Differences in Chest Pain Syndromes in the Frontiers in CV Medicine Special Issue: Sex & Gender in CV Medicine
Puja K. Mehta,Janet Wei,Chrisandra Shufelt,Odayme Quesada,Leslee J. Shaw,C. Noel Bairey Merz +5 more
TL;DR: The lack of recognition of sex-specific biological and socio-cultural gender-related differences in chest pain presentation of coronary artery disease may, in part, explain these disparities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Imaging modalities and radiation: benefit has its risks...
Leslee J. Shaw,Stephan Achenbach,Y S Chandrashekhar,Vasken Dilsizian,W. Gregory Hundley,Morton J. Kern,Christopher M. Kramer,Thomas H. Marwick,William A. Zoghbi,Jagat Narula +9 more
TL;DR: In this issue of iJACC, several articles focus on the controversy of medical imaging radiation and the debate on the “danger” of medical Imaging radiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronary Artery Calcification and Coronary Atherosclerotic Disease
Ramil Goel,Pankaj Garg,Stephan Achenbach,Abha Gupta,Jeremy Song,Nathan D. Wong,Leslee J. Shaw,Jagat Narula +7 more
TL;DR: The status of coronary artery calcium as a marker of increased cardiovascular risk is well established, but the indication for testing continues to be a topic of debate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discordance Between Coronary Artery Calcium Area and Density Predicts Long-Term Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk.
Alexander C. Razavi,Marly van Assen,Carlo N. De Cecco,Zeina Dardari,Daniel S. Berman,Matthew J. Budoff,Michael D. Miedema,Khurram Nasir,Alan Rozanski,John A. Rumberger,Leslee J. Shaw,Laurence S. Sperling,Seamus P. Whelton,Martin Bødtker Mortensen,Michael J. Blaha,Omar Dzaye +15 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors studied 10,373 primary prevention participants from the CAC Consortium with CAC > 0.7 years, adjusting for traditional risk factors and the Agatston CAC score, and found that individuals with low calcium area/high calcium density had a 71% lower risk of ASCVD death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronary Artery Calcium for Risk Stratification of Sudden Cardiac Death: The Coronary Artery Calcium Consortium.
Alexander C. Razavi,S. M. Iftekhar Uddin,Zeina Dardari,Daniel S. Berman,Matthew J. Budoff,Michael D. Miedema,Albert D. Osei,Olufunmilayo H. Obisesan,Khurram Nasir,Alan Rozanski,John A. Rumberger,Leslee J. Shaw,Laurence S. Sperling,Seamus P. Whelton,Martin Bødtker Mortensen,Michael J. Blaha,Omar Dzaye +16 more
TL;DR: In this article , Coronary artery calcium (CAC) is used as a marker of plaque burden to assess the association between CAC and sudden cardiac death (SCD) beyond traditional risk factors.
