Study on soot formation characteristics in the diesel combustion process based on an improved detailed soot model

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved detailed soot model is developed that couples a reduced diesel surrogate fuel chemical reaction mechanism of n-heptane/toluene, implemented into KIVA-3V2 code, for the numerical investigation of soot formation, mass concentration, and size distribution in diesel engines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling study of soot formation and oxidation in di diesel engine using an improved soot model

TL;DR: In this paper, a phenomenological soot model was developed to better model the physical and chemical processes of soot formation in Diesel fuel combustion, where the effect of turbulence on the chemical reaction rate was considered in soot oxidation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of the combustion and emission characteristics of partially premixed compression ignition in a heavy-duty diesel engine

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the injection timing, the exhaust gas recirculation rate and the load rate on the combustion and the heat release pattern were studied in a boosted six-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study of the characteristic of diesel spray combustion and soot formation using laser-induced incandescence (LII)

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of combustion flame and fuel-air mixing characteristics on soot formation and distribution of soot concentration were studied at different conditions, and the results indicated that, with increase in ambient temperature and pressure, the ignition delay of diesel fuel is shorter.
