Influence of fracture-induced weakening on coal mine gateroad stability

TL;DR: In this article, a tension-weakening model is implemented into FLAC3D, whereby the stiffness of the rock mass is progressively decreased with the failure state, and a relationship between the intensity of fractures and the residual strength of the gateroad is built in the numerical model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of Crack Initiation and Propagation Thresholds of Confined Brittle Coal Specimens Based on Energy Dissipation Theory

TL;DR: A new energy-dissipation method to identify crack initiation and propagation thresholds is introduced in this article, which demonstrates that the crack initiation threshold was proportional to the peak stress (σ p) for ratios that ranged from 0.4351 to 0.4753σ p.
Journal ArticleDOI

Numerical Approach for Goaf-Side Entry Layout and Yield Pillar Design in Fractured Ground Conditions

TL;DR: In this article, a case study is presented for evaluating, designing and optimizing EDG and yield pillar by considering the results from numerical simulations and field practice, and the suggested optimal yield pillar design is validated using a field test in the same mine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fracture failure analysis of hard and thick key layer and its dynamic response characteristics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the theoretical analysis method to deduce the calculation method of the fracture failure of hard and thick key strata in coal mine, based on the occurrence law of microseismic (MS) events and the characteristics of surface subsidence.
