Journal ArticleDOI
Functional screening identifies miRNAs inducing cardiac regeneration
Ana Eulalio,Miguel Mano,Matteo Dal Ferro,Matteo Dal Ferro,Lorena Zentilin,Gianfranco Sinagra,Serena Zacchigna,Mauro Giacca +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the exogenous administration of selected microRNAs (miRNAs) markedly stimulates cardiomyocyte proliferation and promotes cardiac repair and the miRNAs identified hold great promise for the treatment of cardiac pathologies consequent to cardiomeocyte loss.
Journal ArticleDOI
MicroRNA therapy stimulates uncontrolled cardiac repair after myocardial infarction in pigs
Khatia Gabisonia,Giulia Prosdocimo,Giovanni Donato Aquaro,Lucia Carlucci,Lorena Zentilin,Ilaria Secco,Ilaria Secco,Hashim Ali,Hashim Ali,Luca Braga,Luca Braga,Nikoloz Gorgodze,Fabio Bernini,Silvia Burchielli,Chiara Collesi,Chiara Collesi,Lorenzo Zandonà,Gianfranco Sinagra,Marcello Piacenti,Serena Zacchigna,Serena Zacchigna,Rossana Bussani,Fabio A. Recchia,Fabio A. Recchia,Mauro Giacca,Mauro Giacca,Mauro Giacca +26 more
TL;DR: It is shown that expression of human microRNA-199a in infarcted pig hearts can stimulate cardiac repair and achieving cardiac repair through the stimulation of endogenous cardiomyocyte proliferation is attainable in large mammals, however dosage of this therapy needs to be tightly controlled.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel procedure for quantitative polymerase chain reaction by coamplification of competitive templates
Silvia Diviacco,Paolo Norio,Lorena Zentilin,Stefano Menzo,Massimo Clementi,Giuseppe Biamonti,Silvano Riva,Arturo Falaschi,Mauro Giacca +8 more
TL;DR: An easy and reliable method for the construction and quantification of competitive templates obtained as recombinant PCR products was developed and the technique was used for the absolute quantifying of human genomic DNA with primers from a single copy, subtelomeric region of chromosome 19.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular endothelial growth factor stimulates skeletal muscle regeneration in Vivo
Nikola Arsic,Serena Zacchigna,Lorena Zentilin,Genaro A. Ramirez-Correa,Lucia Pattarini,Alessandro Salvi,Gianfranco Sinagra,Mauro Giacca +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the delivery of the 165-aa isoform of VEGF-A cDNA using an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector exerts a powerful effect on skeletal muscle regeneration in vivo and is consistent with the observation that V EGF promotes the growth of myogenic fibers and protects the myogenic cells from apoptosis in vitro.
Journal ArticleDOI
Persistence of viral RNA, pneumocyte syncytia and thrombosis are hallmarks of advanced COVID-19 pathology
Rossana Bussani,Edoardo Schneider,Lorena Zentilin,Chiara Collesi,Hashim Ali,Luca Braga,Maria Concetta Volpe,Andrea Colliva,Fabrizio Zanconati,Giorgio Berlot,Furio Silvestri,Serena Zacchigna,Serena Zacchigna,Mauro Giacca,Mauro Giacca,Mauro Giacca +15 more
TL;DR: This work reports the systematic analysis of 41 consecutive post-mortem samples from individuals who died of COVID-19, a unique disease characterized by extensive lung thrombosis, long-term persistence of viral RNA in pneumocytes and endothelial cells, along with the presence of infected cell syncytia.
