Interindividual variation in binding of benzo[a]pyrene to DNA in cultured human bronchi
Curtis C. Harris,Herman Autrup,Robert D. Connor,Lucy A. Barrett,Elizabeth M. McDowell,Benjamin F. Trump +5 more
TL;DR: The binding of benzo[a]pyrene to DNA in cultured human bronchus was measured in specimens from 37 patients and 75-fold interindividual variation in the binding is similar in magnitude to that found in pharmacogenetic studies of drug metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Explant culture of human colon.
Herman Autrup,Herman Autrup,Lucy A. Barrett,Lucy A. Barrett,Frank Jackson,Frank Jackson,Michael L. Jesudason,Michael L. Jesudason,Gary D. Stoner,Gary D. Stoner,Patricia C. Phelps,Patricia C. Phelps,Benjamin F. Trump,Benjamin F. Trump,Curtis C. Harris,Curtis C. Harris +15 more
TL;DR: The viability of the explants was shown by the preservation of the ultrastructural features of the colonic epithelial cells and by active incorporation of radioactive precursors into cellular DNA and protein.
Journal Article
Long-term organ culture of human bronchial epithelium.
TL;DR: Human bronchial epithelium has been maintained in organ culture in serum-supplemented medium for 4 months, and the basal lamina was frequently covered by 2 or 3 layers of epithelial cells consisting of nonkeratinizing squamous cells with short microvilli and small mucous granules.
Journal Article
Metabolism of Benzo[a]pyrene and 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene in Cultured Human Bronchus and Pancreatic Duct
Curtis C. Harris,Herman Autrup,Gary D. Stoner,Shen K. Yang,Janet C. Leutz,Harry V. Gelboin,James K. Selkirk,Robert J. Connor,Lucy A. Barrett,Raymond T. Jones,Elizabeth M. McDowell,Benjamin F. Trump +11 more
TL;DR: The metabolism of two carcinogenic polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, benzo[ a ]pyrene (BP) and 7,12-dimethylbenz [ a ]anthracene, was studied in explants of human pancreatic duct and bronchus cultured in a chemically defined medium.
Journal Article
Binding of [3H]Benzo(a)pyrene to DNA in Cultured Human Bronchus
Curtis C. Harris,Arthur L. Frank,van Haaften C,David G. Kaufman,Robert J. Connor,Frank Jackson,Lucy A. Barrett,Elizabeth M. McDowell,Benjamin F. Trump +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the bronchial mucosa, an important human cancer target tissue, has the capability to form metabolites of BP which bind to macromolecules including DNA.
