TL;DR: In this paper, the first seeded VUV/soft X-ray FEL source, FERMI@Elettra, has been opened to external users while FEL2 has been turned on for the first time having demonstrated that a double cascade scheme is suitable for generating high intensity coherent FEL radiation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on the different FEL-1 operation modes that can be offered for users and assess the performance of the facility, in particular reporting the performance attained at the lower wavelength limit; this aspect is of great interest for the user community of the seeded FEL since it allows to carry out experiments below the carbon K-edge.
