Genetic Relationships among Body Condition Score, Body Weight, Milk Yield, and Fertility in Dairy Cows
Donagh P. Berry,Donagh P. Berry,Frank Buckley,Pat Dillon,R.D. Evans,M. Rath,Roel F. Veerkamp +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, genetic correlations between level of BCS at different stages of lactation and total lactation milk production were negative (-0.51 to -0.14) but became positive (0.01 to 0.39) after adjusting BW for differences in BCS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Description and Validation of the Moorepark Dairy System Model
TL;DR: Validations of the model showed that it could be used with confidence to study systems of milk production under Irish conditions, and sensitivity analyses showed that farm profit was most sensitive to changes in milk price.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Interaction of Strain of Holstein-Friesian Cows and Pasture-Based Feed Systems on Milk Yield, Body Weight, and Body Condition Score
TL;DR: The results indicate that the optimum strain of Holstein-Friesian cows (HF) will vary with feed system, and there was a strain x FS interaction for yield of milk, fat, and protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inbreeding Effects on Milk Production, Calving Performance, Fertility, and Conformation in Irish Holstein-Friesians
TL;DR: The effects of inbreeding were statistically significant, they were small and are unlikely to cause great financial loss on Irish dairy farms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inbreeding trends and pedigree analysis of Irish dairy and beef cattle populations
TL;DR: The objective of this study was to determine the inbreeding levels and to analyze the pedigree of Irish purebred populations of Charolais, Limousin, Hereford, Angus, and Simmental beef cattle as well as the Holstein-Friesian dairy breed.
