First insights into the biodiversity and biogeography of the Southern Ocean deep sea
Angelika Brandt,Andrew J. Gooday,Simone N. Brandão,Saskia Brix,Wiebke Brökeland,Tomas Cedhagen,Madhumita Choudhury,Nils Cornelius,Bruno Danis,Ilse De Mesel,Robert J. Diaz,David Gillan,Brigitte Ebbe,John A. Howe,Dorte Janussen,Stefanie Kaiser,Katrin Linse,Marina V. Malyutina,Jan Pawlowski,Michael J. Raupach,Ann Vanreusel +20 more
TL;DR: New data from recent sampling expeditions in the deep Weddell Sea and adjacent areas reveal high levels of new biodiversity, challenging suggestions that deep-sea diversity is depressed in the Southern Ocean and providing a basis for exploring the evolutionary significance of the varied biogeographic patterns observed in this remote environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep-sea isopod biodiversity, abundance, and endemism in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean-Results from the ANDEEP I-III expeditions
Angelika Brandt,Saskia Brix,Wiebke Brökeland,Madhumita Choudhury,Stefanie Kaiser,Marina V. Malyutina +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, three expeditions were performed in the framework of ANDEEP (ANtarctic benthic DEEP-sea biodiversity, colonisation history and recent community patterns) in order to understand the Southern Ocean biodiversity of the Isopoda and to investigate faunal connections with other deep-sea areas in the world oceans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Composition, abundance and distribution of Peracarida from the Southern Ocean deep sea
TL;DR: In this paper, the peracarid composition from epibenthic-sledge samples obtained during the expeditions ANDEEP I-III is shown and compared to that of other deep-sea basins and the Antarctic shelf.
Journal ArticleDOI
Composition and distribution of benthic isopod (Crustacea, Malacostraca) families off the Victoria-Land Coast (Ross Sea, Antarctica)
TL;DR: The benthic fauna off the Victoria-Land-Coast, Ross Sea (Antarctica) was investigated during the 19th Italica expedition in February 2004 and Paramunnidae was the most frequent taxon and was collected at all stations, in contrast to the Desmosomatidae, which did not occur at any station off Cape Adare.
Journal ArticleDOI
Benthic isopods (Crustacea, Malacostraca) from the Ross Sea, Antarctica: species checklist and their zoogeography in the Southern Ocean
TL;DR: A first insight into the occurrence and distribution of the isopod species of the Ross Sea is given.
