Ubiquitous occurrence of sulfonamides in tropical Asian waters.

TL;DR: Seven sulfonamides, trimethoprim, five macrolides, lincomycin and three tetracyclines were measured in 150 water samples of sewage, livestock and aquaculture wastewater, and river and coastal waters, in five tropical Asian countries, and the most abundant antibiotic was sulfamethoxazole (SMX), followed by lincomYcin and sulfathiazole.
Journal ArticleDOI

Levels of elements in the surficial estuarine sediments of the Hugli River, northeast India and their environmental implications.

TL;DR: The first document of a detailed geochemical and mineralogical study of muddy to sandy mud estuarine sediments of the Hugli River collected from five different sites along its course in the coastal areas of West Bengal, northeast India indicates that the metals that are carried from upstream find their ultimate depositional sink at the delta mouth near Gangasagar.
Journal ArticleDOI

Water quality management in the lower stretch of the river Ganges, east coast of India: an approach through environmental education

TL;DR: In this paper, the physicochemical characteristics and level of dissolved heavy metals at three ecologically distinct zones along the course of the Ganges river were examined and it was revealed that socioeconomic development of Calcutta, the most potential economic zone in India situated on the east bank of Hugli river, has had a significant impact on the water quality of this major river.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distribution, source identification, and historical trends of organic micropollutants in coastal sediment in Jakarta Bay, Indonesia

TL;DR: In this paper, concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), linear alkylbenzenes (LABs), and hopanes in coastal sediments collected from Jakarta Bay and Tokyo Bay were determined.
