Journal ArticleDOI
The viral chemokine MCK-2 of murine cytomegalovirus promotes infection as part of a gH/gL/MCK-2 complex.
Felicia M. Wagner,Ilija Brizić,Adrian Prager,Tihana Tršan,Maja Arapović,Niels A. W. Lemmermann,Jürgen Podlech,Matthias J. Reddehase,Frederic Lemnitzer,Jens B. Bosse,Martina Gimpfl,Lisa Marcinowski,Margaret R. MacDonald,Heiko Adler,Ulrich H. Koszinowski,Barbara Adler +15 more
TL;DR: MCK-2 may play a dual role in MCMV infection, as a chemokine regulating the host response and attracting specific target cells and as part of a glycoprotein complex promoting entry into cells crucial for virus dissemination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brain-resident memory CD8+ T cells induced by congenital CMV infection prevent brain pathology and virus reactivation.
Ilija Brizić,Božo Šušak,Božo Šušak,Maja Arapović,Maja Arapović,Peter C. Huszthy,Peter C. Huszthy,Lea Hiršl,Daria Kveštak,Vanda Juranić Lisnić,Mijo Golemac,Ester Pernjak Pugel,Jelena Tomac,Annetrte Oxenius,William J. Britt,Jurica Arapović,Jurica Arapović,Astrid Krmpotić,Stipan Jonjić +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown that CD8+ T cells infiltrate the brain and form a pool of tissue‐resident memory T cells (TRM cells) that persist for lifetime, which provide protection against primary MCMV infection in newborn mice, reduce brain pathology, and remain in the brain as TRM cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Superior induction and maintenance of protective CD8 T cells in mice infected with mouse cytomegalovirus vector expressing RAE-1γ
Tihana Tršan,Andreas Busche,Maja Abram,Felix M. Wensveen,Niels A. W. Lemmermann,Maja Arapović,Marina Babić,Adriana Tomic,Mijo Golemac,Melanie M. Brinkmann,Wiebke Jäger,Annette Oxenius,Bojan Polić,Astrid Krmpotić,Martin Messerle,Stipan Jonjić +15 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a recombinant CMV vector expressing RAE-1γ, a cellular ligand for activating NKG2D receptor expressed on several types of immune cells, has tremendous potential for subverting viral immunoevasion and enhancing the efficiency of the CD8 T-cell response against vectored antigens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiological, Clinical and Molecular Characterization of Human Brucellosis in Bosnia and Herzegovina – An Ongoing Brucellosis Outbreak
Jurica Arapović,Silvio Špičić,Maja Ostojić,Sanja Duvnjak,Maja Arapović,Jadranka Nikolić,Željko Cvetnić +6 more
TL;DR: This study confirms the usefulness of MLVA-16 method in the epidemiological and molecular research of brucellosis during epidemic that, most likely, originated from the same source.
Journal ArticleDOI
The specific NK cell response in concert with perforin prevents CD8(+) T cell-mediated immunopathology after mouse cytomegalovirus infection.
Jurica Arapović,Jurica Arapović,Maja Arapović,Mijo Golemac,Luka Traven,Jelena Tomac,Dijana Rumora,Edvard Ražić,Astrid Krmpotić,Stipan Jonjić +9 more
TL;DR: The results of this study suggest that a lack of perforin and absence of the specific activation of NK cells during acute MCMV infection lead to an unleashed CD8+ T cell response that is detrimental for the host.
