Journal ArticleDOI
Midgut microbiota of the malaria mosquito vector Anopheles gambiae and interactions with Plasmodium falciparum infection
Anne Boissière,Majoline T. Tchioffo,Dipankar Bachar,Luc Abate,Alexandra Marie,Sandrine E. Nsango,Sandrine E. Nsango,Hamid Reza Shahbazkia,Hamid Reza Shahbazkia,Parfait Awono-Ambene,Elena A. Levashina,Richard Christen,Isabelle Morlais +12 more
TL;DR: Evidence is presented that the composition of the vector gut microbiota is one of the major components that determine the outcome of mosquito infections, and the abundance of Enterobacteriaceae in the mosquito midgut correlates significantly with the Plasmodium infection status.
Journal ArticleDOI
Composition of Anopheles coluzzii and Anopheles gambiae microbiota from larval to adult stages.
Geoffrey Gimonneau,Majoline T. Tchioffo,Luc Abate,Anne Boissière,Parfait Awono-Ambene,Sandrine E. Nsango,Richard Christen,Isabelle Morlais +7 more
TL;DR: It is found that the distribution of bacterial communities in the aquatic habitats differed according to the depth of water collections, and inter-individual variation of bacterial composition was large in larvae guts but adult mosquitoes from a same breeding site shared quite similar microbiota.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of Bacterial Community Composition in the Malaria Mosquito's Epithelia
Majoline T. Tchioffo,Anne Boissière,Luc Abate,Sandrine E. Nsango,Albert N. Bayibéki,Parfait Awono-Ambene,Richard Christen,Richard Christen,Geoffrey Gimonneau,Isabelle Morlais +9 more
TL;DR: The dynamics of the bacterial communities in the mosquito tissues from emerging mosquitoes until 8 days after a blood meal containing Plasmodium falciparum gametocytes are investigated and the temporal colonization of the mosquito epithelia is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modulation of Malaria Infection in Anopheles gambiae Mosquitoes Exposed to Natural Midgut Bacteria
Majoline T. Tchioffo,Anne Boissière,Thomas S. Churcher,Luc Abate,Geoffrey Gimonneau,Sandrine E. Nsango,Parfait Awono-Ambene,Richard Christen,Antoine Berry,Isabelle Morlais +9 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the effect ofacterial exposure on P. falciparum infection varies with factors from the parasite and the human host and calls for deeper dissection of these parameters for accurate interpretation of bacterial exposure results in laboratory settings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum parasites resistant to sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine in pregnant women in Yaoundé, Cameroon: emergence of highly resistant pfdhfr/pfdhps alleles
Pamela Chauvin,Sandie Menard,Xavier Iriart,Sandrine E. Nsango,Majoline T. Tchioffo,Luc Abate,Parfait Awono-Ambene,Isabelle Morlais,Antoine Berry +8 more
TL;DR: Several parasites carrying eight mutations in pfdhfr/pfdhps genes, which are very susceptible to having a high level of resistance to sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine, were observed.
