Journal ArticleDOI
Glioma-derived IL-33 orchestrates an inflammatory brain tumor microenvironment that accelerates glioma progression.
Astrid De Boeck,Bo Young Ahn,Charlotte D'Mello,Xueqing Lun,Shyam V Menon,Mana Alshehri,Mana Alshehri,Frank Szulzewsky,Yaoqing Shen,Lubaba Khan,Ngoc Ha Dang,Elliott Michael Reichardt,Kimberly-Ann R. Goring,Jennifer King,Cameron J. Grisdale,Natalie Grinshtein,Dolores Hambardzumyan,Karlyne M. Reilly,Michael D. Blough,J. Gregory Cairncross,V. Wee Yong,Marco A. Marra,Steven J.M. Jones,David L. Kaplan,Kathy D. McCoy,Eric C. Holland,Pinaki Bose,Jennifer A. Chan,Stephen M. Robbins,Donna L. Senger +29 more
TL;DR: It is found that IL-33 expression in a large subset of human glioma specimens and murine models correlates with increased tumor-associated macrophages/monocytes/microglia, which supports the paradigm that recruitment and activation of immune cells, when instructed appropriately, offer a therapeutic strategy that switches the focus from the cancer cell alone to one that includes the normal host environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurons Export Extracellular Vesicles Enriched in Cysteine String Protein and Misfolded Protein Cargo.
Jingti Deng,Carolina Koutras,Julien Donnelier,Mana Alshehri,Maryam Fotouhi,Martine Girard,Steve Casha,Peter S. McPherson,Stephen M. Robbins,Janice E. A. Braun +9 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that by assisting local lysosome/proteasome processes, CSPα-mediated removal of toxic proteins via EVs plays a central role in synaptic proteostasis and CSP α thus represents a potential therapeutic target for neurodegenerative diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glioma invasion mediated by the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75 NTR /CD271) requires regulated interaction with PDLIM1
Bo Young Ahn,R F G Saldanha-Gama,Jennifer J. Rahn,Xiaoguang Hao,J Zhang,N-H Dang,Mana Alshehri,Stephen M. Robbins,D L Senger +8 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that preventing phosphorylation of p75NTR on S303 by pharmacological inhibition of PKA, or by a mutational strategy (S303G), cripples p75nTR-mediated glioma invasion resulting in serine phosphorylated within the C-terminal PDZ-binding motif (SPV) of p 75NTR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Capicua regulates neural stem cell proliferation and lineage specification through control of Ets factors
Shiekh Tanveer Ahmad,Shiekh Tanveer Ahmad,Alexandra D. Rogers,Myra J. Chen,Myra J. Chen,Rajiv Dixit,Rajiv Dixit,Rajiv Dixit,Lata Adnani,Lata Adnani,Luke Frankiw,Luke Frankiw,Samuel Lawn,Michael D. Blough,Mana Alshehri,Wei Wu,Wei Wu,Marco A. Marra,Stephen M. Robbins,J. Gregory Cairncross,Carol Schuurmans,Carol Schuurmans,Jennifer A. Chan,Jennifer A. Chan +23 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Cic is strongly expressed in astrocytic and neuronal lineage cells during development and regulates proliferation and lineage selection via de-repression of Ets transcription factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel inhibitory effect of oxazol-5-one compounds on ROCKII signaling in human coronary artery vascular smooth muscle cells
Abdulhameed Al-Ghabkari,Jingti Deng,Paul C. McDonald,Shoukat Dedhar,Mana Alshehri,Michael P. Walsh,Justin A. MacDonald +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that DI is not selective for zipper-interacting protein kinase (ZIPK) and is a potent inhibitor of ROCKII.
