Journal ArticleDOI
Distinguishing ventricular septal bulge versus hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the elderly
Marco Canepa,Iraklis Pozios,Pier Filippo Vianello,Pietro Ameri,Claudio Brunelli,Luigi Ferrucci,Theodore P. Abraham +6 more
TL;DR: There remains a considerable morphological overlap between the two conditions, and comprehensive studies, particularly imaging based, are warranted to offer a more evidence-based approach to elderly patients with focal septal thickening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unmasking the prevalence of amyloid cardiomyopathy in the real world: results from Phase 2 of the AC‐TIVE study, an Italian nationwide survey
Marco Merlo,Linda Pagura,Aldostefano Porcari,Matteo Cameli,Giuseppe Vergaro,Beatrice Musumeci,Elena Biagini,Marco Canepa,Lia Crotti,Massimo Imazio,Cinzia Forleo,Francesco Cappelli,Federico Perfetto,Stefano Favale,G. Di Bella,Franca Dore,Francesca Girardi,Daniela Tomasoni,Rita Pavasini,Valeria Rella,Giuseppe Palmiero,Martina Caiazza,M. Carella,A. Igoren Guaricci,Giovanna Branzi,Angelo Giuseppe Caponetti,Giulia Saturi,Giovanni La Malfa,Andrea Merlo,Alessandro Andreis,Francesco Bruno,Francesca Longo,Maddalena Rossi,Guerino Giuseppe Varrà,Riccardo Saro,Luca Di Ienno,Giuseppe De Carli,Elisa Giacomin,Chiara Arzilli,Giuseppe Limongelli,Camillo Autore,Iacopo Olivotto,Luigi P. Badano,Gianfranco Parati,Stefano Perlini,Marco Metra,Emdin Michele,Claudio Rapezzi,Gianfranco Sinagra +48 more
TL;DR: To investigate the prevalence of amyloid cardiomyopathy and the diagnostic accuracy of echocardiographic red flags of AC among consecutive adult patients undergoing transthoracic e chocardiogram for reason other than AC in 13 Italian institutions, a large number of patients are diagnosed with AC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lower Mitochondrial Energy Production of the Thigh Muscles in Patients With Low‐Normal Ankle‐Brachial Index
Majd AlGhatrif,Ariel C. Zane,Matt T. Oberdier,Marco Canepa,Marco Canepa,Stephanie A. Studenski,Eleanor M. Simonsick,Richard G. Spencer,Kenneth W. Fishbein,David Reiter,Edward G. Lakatta,Mary M. McDermott,Luigi Ferrucci +12 more
TL;DR: Adverse associations of lower ABI values with impaired mitochondrial activity are demonstrated even within the range of a clinically accepted definition of a normal ABI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of stream sediment chemistry to predict trace element chemistry of groundwater. A case study from the Bisagno Valley (Genoa, Italy)
TL;DR: In this article, irreversible water-rock mass transfer accompanying the generation of the Bisagno valley groundwaters, starting from local rainwaters, was simulated through reaction path modeling in reaction progress mode, and the simulations assumed bulk dissolution of local stream sediments (i.e. without any constraint on their mineralogy and on the dissolution rates of primary solid phases) and precipitation of chalcedony, illite, a smectite solid mixture, a hydroxide solid mixture.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Outcomes in Patients With Nonobstructive, Labile-Obstructive, and Chronically Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
Iraklis Pozios,Celia P. Corona-Villalobos,Lars Sorensen,Paco E. Bravo,Marco Canepa,Chiara Pisanello,Aurelio Pinheiro,Veronica L Dimaano,Hongchang Luo,Zeina Dardari,Xun Zhou,Ihab R. Kamel,Stefan L. Zimmerman,David A. Bluemke,M. Roselle Abraham,Theodore P. Abraham +15 more
TL;DR: Nonobstructive hemodynamics is associated with more pronounced fibrosis and ischemia than labile-obstructionive and is an independent predictor of VT/VF in HC.
