Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of smart transformer voltage and frequency support in a high renewable penetration system

TL;DR: This paper investigates the use of an ST to dynamically control reactive power and demand to support voltage and frequency respectively in the grid and shows that widespread use of STs with these controls could potentially facilitate a 10% increase in wind penetration without the inclusion of any other storage.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Voltage and current balancing in Low and Medium Voltage grid by means of Smart Transformer

TL;DR: The Smart Transformer (ST) as discussed by the authors is a power electronics-based transformer that represents an enabling technology for providing new services to the Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) grids.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

A new prospective of smart transformer application: Dual microgrid (DMG) operation

TL;DR: This paper introduces for the first time an unexplored feature of the smart transformer, dual microgrid (DMG) operation, which has potential to significantly improve the performance of power system as well as ST.
Journal ArticleDOI

Smart transformer-based medium voltage grid support by means of active power control

TL;DR: A Smart Transformer (ST)-based Medium Voltage (MV) grid support by means of active power control in the ST-fed Low Voltage (LV) grid, evaluated under different voltage-dependence of the loads in the LV grid.
