Journal ArticleDOI
Fish as bioindicators to assess the effects of pollution in two southern Brazilian rivers using the Comet assay and micronucleus test.
Vanessa Moraes de Andrade,Juliana da Silva,Juliana da Silva,Fernanda Rabaioli da Silva,Vanina D. Heuser,Johnny Ferraz Dias,Maria Lucia Yoneama,Thales Renato Ochotorena de Freitas +7 more
TL;DR: Comparison of the chemical contaminants and physical variations in the rivers with the genotoxicity data indicate that there may be some association between hydrocarbons, metals, pH, and water temperature and the level of damaged cells observed in mullet and sea catfish from the Tramandaí and Mampituba estuaries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genotoxicity and mutagenicity of iron and copper in mice
Daniel Prá,Silvia Isabel Rech Franke,Raquel Giulian,Maria Lucia Yoneama,Johnny Ferraz Dias,Bernardo Erdtmann,João Antonio Pêgas Henriques,João Antonio Pêgas Henriques +7 more
TL;DR: Treatment with iron, but not with copper, induced a significant increase in the hepatic level of the respective metal, reflecting different excretion strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elemental composition of PM10 and PM2.5 in urban environment in South Brazil
C.F. Braga,Elba Calesso Teixeira,Lindolfo Meira,Flavio Wiegand,Maria Lucia Yoneama,Johnny Ferraz Dias +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the elemental composition and the concentrations of PM 10 and PM 2.5 in the Guaiba Hydrographic Basin with HV PM10 and dichotomous samplers were analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genotoxicity biomonitoring in regions exposed to vehicle emissions using the comet assay and the micronucleus test in native rodent Ctenomys minutus
Vanina D. Heuser,Juliana da Silva,Heinz-Jörn Moriske,Johnny Ferraz Dias,Maria Lucia Yoneama,Thales Renato Ochotorena de Freitas +5 more
TL;DR: The alkaline comet assay results suggest that adult females are the principal population affected by air pollutants from vehicle emissions, and indicate that there was an increase in cells with DNA damage for C. minutus environmentally exposed to automobile emissions, but there was no increase in micronucleated cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of orange juice in the levels and in the genotoxicity of iron and copper
Silvia Isabel Rech Franke,Daniel Prá,Raquel Giulian,Johnny Ferraz Dias,Maria Lucia Yoneama,Juliana da Silva,Juliana da Silva,Bernardo Erdtmann,Bernardo Erdtmann,João Antonio Pêgas Henriques,João Antonio Pêgas Henriques,João Antonio Pêgas Henriques +11 more
TL;DR: The mutagenic potential of orange juice and two metallic agents used in dietary supplementation were investigated using the comet assay in mouse blood cells and both metal compounds were genotoxic for eukaryotic cells after 24h treatment at the doses used.
