Ocean circulation causes the largest freshening event for 120 years in eastern subpolar North Atlantic

TL;DR: It is found that wind-driven routing of Arctic-origin freshwater intimately links conditions on the North West Atlantic shelf and slope region with the eastern subpolar basins, revealing the importance of atmospheric forcing of intra-basin circulation in determining the salinity of the subpolar North Atlantic.
Journal ArticleDOI

Strong Downslope Wind Events in Ammassalik, Southeast Greenland

TL;DR: In this article, data from two meteorological stations and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Interim Re-Analysis (ERA-Interim) are used to identify and characterize these strong downslope wind events, which are especially pronounced at a major east Greenland fjord, Sermilik Fjord within Ammassalik.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased Greenland melt triggered by large-scale, year-round cyclonic moisture intrusions

TL;DR: In this paper, the synoptic atmospheric conditions associated with 313 rapid melt increases, detected in a satellite-derived melt extent product, equally distributed throughout the year over the period 1979-2012.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deep convection in the Irminger Sea observed with a Dense Mooring Array

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the role of strong convection in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMEOC) during the winters of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016.
