Journal ArticleDOI

Primary open-angle glaucoma.

TL;DR: A typical case of glaucoma is presented, together with the ocular findings, and the clinical features, genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology of glAUcoma are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Retinal neurodegeneration may precede microvascular changes characteristic of diabetic retinopathy in diabetes mellitus.

TL;DR: This longitudinal study in people with diabetes with no or minimal DR shows thatRDN precedes signs of microvasculopathy and that RDN is progressive and independent of glycated hemoglobin, age, and sex and represents a paradigm shift in the understanding of ocular diabetic complications.
Journal ArticleDOI

Missense variations in the fibulin 5 gene and age-related macular degeneration.

TL;DR: Seven of the 402 patients with AMD had amino acid-altering sequence variations in the fibulin 5 gene, whereas none were observed among 429 control subjects, which suggests that several of these variations may also be involved in AMD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction of ER stress via a chemical chaperone prevents disease phenotypes in a mouse model of primary open angle glaucoma

TL;DR: Reduction of ER stress with a chemical chaperone, phenylbutyric acid (PBA), prevented glaucoma phenotypes in Tg-MYOC(Y437H) mice by promoting the secretion of mutant myocilin in the aqueous humor and by decreasing intracellular accumulation of myociles in the ER, thus preventing TM cell death.
