Telecommunication devices use, screen time and sleep in adolescents
Alba Cabré-Riera,Maties Torrent,David Donaire-Gonzalez,Martine Vrijheid,Elisabeth Cardis,Mònica Guxens +5 more
TL;DR: Frequency of cordless phone calls, mobile phone dependency, and tablet use were related to an increase of subjective and objective sleep problems in adolescents, which seem to indicate that sleep displacement, mental arousal, and exposure to blue light screen emission might play a more important role on sleep than a high RF‐EMF exposure to the brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prenatal and postnatal exposure to NO2 and child attentional function at 4–5 years of age
Alexis Sentís,Jordi Sunyer,Albert Dalmau-Bueno,Ainara Andiarena,F Ballester,Marta Cirach,Marisa Estarlich,Ana Fernández-Somoano,Jesús Ibarluzea,Carmen Iñiguez,Aitana Lertxundi,Adonina Tardón,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,Martine Vrijheid,Mònica Guxens +14 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that higher exposure to ambient NO2, mainly during pregnancy and to a lesser extent postnatally, is associated with impaired attentional function in children at 4-5years of age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and temporal variability of personal environmental exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields in children in Europe.
Laura Ellen Birks,Benjamin Struchen,Marloes Eeftens,Luuk van Wel,Anke Huss,Peter Gajšek,Leeka Kheifets,Mara Gallastegi,Albert Dalmau-Bueno,Marisa Estarlich,Mariana F. Fernandez,Inger Kristine Meder,Amparo Ferrero,Ana Jiménez-Zabala,Maties Torrent,Tanja G. M. Vrijkotte,Elisabeth Cardis,Jørn Olsen,Blaž Valič,Roel Vermeulen,Martine Vrijheid,Martin Röösli,Mònica Guxens +22 more
TL;DR: The largest contributors to total personal environmental RF-EMF exposure were downlink and broadcast, and these exposures showed high repeatability, and urbanicity and mobile phone use were the most important determinants of total exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Maternal cell phone use during pregnancy and child behavioral problems in five birth cohorts.
Laura Ellen Birks,Laura Ellen Birks,Mònica Guxens,Eleni Papadopoulou,Jan Alexander,F Ballester,Marisa Estarlich,Mara Gallastegi,Mina Ha,Margaretha Haugen,Anke Huss,Leeka Kheifets,Hyungryul Lim,Jørn Olsen,Loreto Santa-Marina,Madhuri Sudan,Roel Vermeulen,Tanja G. M. Vrijkotte,Elisabeth Cardis,Martine Vrijheid +19 more
TL;DR: Maternal cell phone use during pregnancy may be associated with an increased risk for behavioral problems, particularly hyperactivity/inattention problems, in the offspring.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early life multiple exposures and child cognitive function : A multi-centric birth cohort study in six European countries
Jordi Julvez,Mónica López-Vicente,Charline Warembourg,Lea Maitre,Claire Philippat,Kristine B. Gutzkow,Mònica Guxens,Jorunn Evandt,Sandra Andrusaityte,Miguel Burgaleta,Maribel Casas,Leda Chatzi,Montserrat de Castro,David Donaire-Gonzalez,Regina Gražulevičienė,Carles Hernandez-Ferrer,Barbara Heude,Rosie McEachan,Mark Mon-Williams,Mark J. Nieuwenhuijsen,Oliver Robinson,Amrit Kaur Sakhi,Núria Sebastián-Gallés,Rémy Slama,Jordi Sunyer,Ibon Tamayo-Uria,Cathrine Thomsen,Jose Urquiza,Marina Vafeiadi,John Wright,Xavier Basagaña,Martine Vrijheid +31 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used two statistical approaches to assess associations between exposure and child cognition: the exposome-wide association study (ExWAS) considering each exposure independently, and the deletion-substitution-addition algorithm (DSA) considering all exposures simultaneously to build a final multiexposure model.
